FBC Kalmarsund
FBC Kalmarsund, up to 2011 known as Färjestadens IBK, is a Swedish floorball team, from Färjestaden, Öland, that plays in the Swedish Division 1 South. In the 2007–08 season, they played in Swedish Super League, the highest league of Swedish floorball. They ended last and were relegated to Division 1 South for the 2008–2009 season. They now play in the Swedish Super League again. History The club was founded by a couple of friends in 1990. In 1998, FIBK men's team played in the Swedish Division 5. Eight years later in 2006–07,. the club won their Division 1 group and qualified for Swedish Super League during the 2007–08 season. The club became Öland's first Elitserien club in any ball game. Floorball
Floorball is a type of floor hockey with five players and a goalkeeper in each team. Men and women play indoors with sticks and a plastic ball with holes. Matches are played in three twenty-minute periods. The sport of bandy also played a role in the game's development. The game was invented in Sweden in the late 1960s. The basic rules were established in 1979 when the first floorball club in the world, Sala IBK, from Sala, was founded in Sweden. Official rules for matches were first written down in 1981. The sport is organized internationally by the International Floorball Federation (IFF). As of 2019, there were about 377,000 registered floorball players worldwide, up from around 300,000 in 2014. Events include an annual Champions Cup, EuroFloorball Cup and EuroFloorball Challenge for club teams and the biennial World Floorball Championships with separate divisions for men and women. Färjestaden
Färjestaden is a locality situated in Mörbylånga Municipality, Kalmar County, Sweden with 5,018 inhabitants in 2010. It is located in the southern part on the island of Öland, on the Kalmar Strait-side of the island, south of Borgholm. Färjestaden, literally ''The Ferry Town'', is named after the ferries that used to be the only connection to the mainland. Nowadays the car-bridge Ölandsbron connects the mainland with the island, and Färjestaden has had an impressive population increase, making it several times bigger than the town Mörbylånga. In the city center of Färjestaden there is a shopping mall with, among other things, a pharmacy, grocery store and local library. Öland
Öland (, ; ; sometimes written ''Øland'' in other Scandinavian languages, and often ''Oland'' internationally; la, Oelandia) is the second-largest Swedish island and the smallest of the traditional provinces of Sweden. Öland has an area of and is located in the Baltic Sea just off the coast of Småland. The island has 26,000 inhabitants. Swedish Super League ( sv, Svenska Superligan för herrar; formerly, ''Elitserien'') is the highest league in the league system of Swedish floorball and comprises the top 14 Swedish floorball teams. The first season began in 1995–96. The season ends with a play-off and a final. The champion of the league is eligible to compete at the Champions Cup. History The Swedish Super League was founded in 1995 under the name Elitserien. It then replaced the Division 1 league as the high level floorball league of Sweden. Between the seasons 1995–96 and 1998–99 the league was divided into a northern and a southern group. Since the 1999–2000 season, it is a national league.
