FA Cup Final 1980
The 1980 FA Cup Final was contested by West Ham United and Arsenal at Wembley. West Ham won by a single goal, scored by Trevor Brooking. To date, it is the last time a team from outside the top flight has won the FA Cup. It was West Ham's third FA Cup triumph and the last time that they have won a major trophy. Match details The 1980 Cup Final was the 99th final to be played since 1872, and the 52nd to be played at Wembley since 1923. The tie involved Arsenal, who had played in the previous two FA Cup Finals and were a strong First Division side, and two time F.A. 1979–80 FA Cup
The 1979–80 FA Cup was the 99th season of the world's oldest football knockout competition, The Football Association Challenge Cup, or FA Cup. The final saw second division West Ham United beat holders Arsenal 1–0. As of 2022, this was the last occasion when a club outside the top division of English football won the FA Cup. First round proper Teams from the Football League Third and Fourth Division entered in this round plus Stafford Rangers, Kettering Town, Altrincham and Scarborough were given byes. The first round of games were played on 24 November 1979. Replays were played on 26–28 November. David Cross (footballer Born 1950)
David Cross (born 8 December 1950) is an English former footballer who played as a striker. He scored 223 goals in 599 appearances in the Football League and the North American Soccer League. Cross was born in Heywood, Lancashire. Football career Cross played for Third Division club Rochdale, where he scored against top-flight Coventry City in a third-round FA Cup game in 1971. He moved to Norwich City, with whom he won the Second Division championship in 1972. He joined Coventry City for £150,000, then a club record. In 1976–77, Cross scored hat-tricks on the opening and closing days the season, the only Coventry City player to do so in a league campaign. He joined West Bromwich Albion for £150,000 in November 1976, and made his Albion debut against Manchester City. Geoff Pike
Geoffrey Alan Pike (born 28 September 1956) is an English former footballer who played as a midfielder. He spent the majority of his career at West Ham United. Pike played his early football in Thurrock and later with Gidea Park Rangers. He joined West Ham United in 1974 and was a member of the side that reached the 1975 FA Youth Cup Final. He made his league debut on 6 March 1976 against Birmingham City. In 1976, West Ham loaned him to the Hartford Bicentennials of the North American Soccer League. He returned on loan in 1977, but by that time the team had moved and was now known as the Connecticut Bicentennials. He played for the Upton Park club for twelve years, gaining an FA Cup winners medal in 1980, a League Cup runners-up medal in 1981 and promotion back to the top tier, after finishing as Division Two champions in 1980–81. Alvin Martin
Alvin Edward Martin (born 29 July 1958) is an English football manager, former professional footballer and pundit. As a player, he was a defender, playing most of his footballing career for West Ham United he appeared in 598 games for them, scoring 34 goals. With the club for 21 years, and winning the 1980 FA Cup. He played in a number of Premier League seasons before leaving for Leyton Orient in 1996. He moved into football management with Southend United in 1997. He was capped 17 times England during the 1980s, Martin represented them at the 1986 World Cup. Ray Stewart (Scottish Footballer)
Raymond Struan McDonald Stewart (born 7 September 1959) is a Scottish former footballer, who played as a defender for Dundee United, West Ham United, St Johnstone and Stirling Albion. During his career he won the 1980 FA Cup with West Ham and played in 10 full internationals for Scotland. Paul Kevin Allen (born 28 August 1962) is an English former professional footballer and delegate liaison officer for the Professional Footballers' Association.
