F. C. Grant
Frederick Clifton Grant (February 2, 1891 – July 11, 1974) was an American New Testament scholar. Grant was born on February 2, 1891, in Beloit, Wisconsin. He received a Bachelor of Divinity degree from General Theological Seminary in 1912 and Master of Sacred Theology and Doctor of Theology degrees from Western Theological Seminary in 1916 and 1922 respectively. Grant was Edward Robertson Professor of Biblical Theology at the Union Theological Seminary in New York City. In 1951, a ''Festschrift'' was published in his honor. ''The Joy of Study: Papers on New Testament and Related Subjects Presented to Honor Frederick Clifton Grant'' included contributions from Henry Cadbury, Philip Carrington, and Robert M. Grant. Grant argued for a form of the multi-source hypothesis in relation to the synoptic problem. Multi-source Hypothesis
The Multi-source hypothesis is a proposed solution to the synoptic problem, holding that Matthew, Mark, and Luke are not directly interdependent but have each drawn from a distinct combination of earlier documents. It encompasses a family of theories differing in the particulars of the nature and relationships of these earlier documents. An early form of the theory was proposed by Herbert Marsh over two centuries ago. More recently, Marie-Émile Boismard proposed a structurally similar theory, which was further developed by Philippe Rolland and Delbert Burkett. Philip Carrington (6 July 1892 – 3 October 1975) was an eminent Anglican priest and author, the seventh Bishop of Quebec and the eleventh Metropolitan of Canada. Born into an ecclesiastical family and educated at Christ's College, Christchurch and the University of Canterbury, he was ordained in 1919. Henry Cadbury
Henry Joel Cadbury (December 1, 1883 – October 7, 1974) was an American biblical scholar, Quaker historian, writer, and non-profit administrator. Life A graduate of Haverford College, Cadbury was a Quaker throughout his life, as well as an agnostic. Forced out of his teaching position at Haverford for writing an anti-war letter to the Philadelphia Public Ledger, in 1918, he saw the experience as a milestone, leading him to larger service beyond his Orthodox Religious Society of Friends.
