Field-reversed Configuration
A field-reversed configuration (FRC) is a type of plasma device studied as a means of producing nuclear fusion. It confines a plasma on closed magnetic field lines without a central penetration. In an FRC, the plasma has the form of a self-stable torus, similar to a smoke ring. FRCs are closely related to another self-stable magnetic confinement fusion device, the spheromak. Both are considered part of the compact toroid class of fusion devices. FRCs normally have a plasma that is more elongated than spheromaks, having the overall shape of a hollowed out sausage rather than the roughly spherical spheromak. FRCs were a major area of research in the 1960s and into the 1970s, but had problems scaling up into practical fusion triple products. Interest returned in the 1990s and , FRCs were an active research area. History The FRC was first observed in laboratories in the late 1950s during theta pinch experiments with a reversed background magnetic field. The first studies were a ...

Fourier Ring Correlation
In structural biology, as well as in virtually all sciences that produce three-dimensional data, the Fourier shell correlation (FSC) measures the normalised cross-correlation coefficient between two 3-dimensional volumes over corresponding shells in Fourier space (i.e., as a function of spatial frequencyHarauz & van Heel, 1986). The FSC is the three-dimensional extension of the two-dimensional Fourier ring correlation (FRC);van Heel, 1982 also known as: spatial frequency correlation function.Saxton & Baumeister, 1982 Calculation : FSC(r) = \frac where F_1 is the complex structure Factor for volume 1, F_2^ is the complex conjugate of the structure Factor for volume 2, and r_i is the individual voxel element at radius r.van Heel & Schatz, 2005 In this form, the FSC takes two three-dimensional data sets and converts them into a one-dimensional array. The FSC originated in cryo-electron microscopy and gradually proliferated to other fields. To measure the FSC, two independently d ...

Fischer Random Chess
Fischer random chess, also known as Chess960 (often read in this context as 'chess nine-sixty' instead of 'chess nine hundred sixty'), is a variation of the game of chess invented by the former world chess champion Bobby Fischer. Fischer announced this variation on June 19, 1996, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Fischer random chess employs the same board and pieces as classical chess, but the starting position of the pieces on the players' is randomized, following certain rules. The random setup makes gaining an advantage through the memorization of openings impracticable; players instead must rely more on their skill and creativity . Randomizing the main pieces had long been known as shuffle chess, but Fischer random chess introduces new rules for the initial random setup, "preserving the dynamic nature of the game by retaining for each player and the right to castle for both sides". The result is 960 unique possible starting positions. In 2008, FIDE added Chess960 to an app ...

Lymph Node Stromal Cell
Lymph node stromal cells are essential to the structure and function of the lymph node whose functions include: creating an internal tissue scaffold for the support of hematopoietic cells; the release of small molecule chemical messengers that facilitate interactions between hematopoietic cells; the facilitation of the migration of hematopoietic cells; the presentation of antigens to immune cells at the initiation of the adaptive immune system; and the homeostasis of lymphocyte numbers. Stromal cells originate from multipotent mesenchymal stem cells. Structure Lymph nodes are enclosed in an external fibrous capsule, from which thin walls of sinew called ''trabeculae'' penetrate into the lymph node, partially dividing it. Beneath the external capsule and along the courses of the trabeculae, are ''peritrabecular'' and '' subcapsular sinuses''. These sinuses are cavities containing macrophages (specialised cells which help to keep the extracellular matrix in order). The interior ...

The ANO is named after its founder Abu Nidal. It was created by a split from Yasser Arafat's Fatah faction of the PLO in 1974. The group has been designated as a terrorist organization by the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, Israel, Canada, and the European Union. The ANO was secular and anti-Western, but was not particularly associated with any ideology, or at least no such foundation was communicated. The organization was strongly linked with Abu Nidal's personal agenda. The group carried out hijackings, assassinations and kidnappings of diplomats, and attacks on synagogues – 90 attacks during the period 1974–1992. Nidal died in Baghdad in 2002. Formation and background The ANO was originally formed as a result of the 1974 Rejectionist Front split in the PLO, after Arafat's Fatah had pushed ...
