F.C. Porto (basketball)
Futebol Clube do Porto (), commonly referred to as FC Porto, or simply Porto, is a Portuguese professional basketball team based in Porto. Created in 1926, it is the senior representative side of the basketball section of multi-sports club FC Porto. The team competes domestically in the Liga Portuguesa de Basquetebol (LPB) and internationally in FIBA Europe competitions, such as the Champions League and the FIBA Europe Cup. It plays its home matches at the Dragão Arena, alongside the club's handball and roller hockey teams, and is managed by Galician head coach Moncho López since 2009. In 2012, the section was reformulated and the senior team was disbanded in favor of a youth team called "Dragon Force", which began competing in the third-tier CNB 1. The Liga Portuguesa de Basquetebol ( en, Portuguese Basketball League), also known as Liga Betclic for sponsorship reasons, is the top men's professional club basketball league in Portugal. This was caused by the fold of the LPB after many years of financial problems, with the league now being a semi-professional league. Charles Payton (basketball)
Charles Payton (born 1960) is an American-Austrian former professional basketball player. He was born in the United States, but after spending the majority of his professional career in Austria he acquired dual citizenship. He now lives in Vienna and coaches basketball. Playing career Payton did not begin playing basketball until his junior year at Camden High School in Camden, New Jersey. He had been a football player until then, but a football injury the previous year ended his pursuit of that sport. Then-head basketball coach Clarence Turner spotted Payton in the marching band, and upon seeing his size, recruited him to play forward for the team. In his senior season, Camden won the New Jersey Group IV state championship. António Pratas Trophy
The Troféu António Pratas (English: ''António Pratas Trophy'') is an annual cup competition for Portuguese basketball teams organized by the Portuguese Basketball Federation. Created in 2007 to honour António Pratas, its first edition was only open to Proliga clubs. A year later, it expanded to include teams from the Liga Portuguesa de Basquetebol and has since established itself as a "curtain-raiser" for the season. Played in early October in two different levels, Proliga and LPB, each winner receives a trophy for their respective competition. After the inaugural season won by Benfica, its second had six winners in the three different regions. Its third year was a one-off edition were both leagues played together. 2015–16 LPB Season
The 2015–16 LPB season was the 83rd season of the premier Portuguese basketball league, and the eight season under the current Liga Portuguesa de Basquetebol (LPB) format. The regular season was played between 10 October 2015 and 17 April May 2016, and was followed by the playoffs between 22 April and 28 May 2016. Porto defeated four-time defending champions Benfica 3–1 in the playoff finals to win their 12th national championship title, in the first season after being promoted from the second tier. Format A total of eleven teams played a first phase in a double round-robin format, with the odd team resting every matchday.
