Evolution Championship Series 2004
The 2004 Evolution Championship Series (commonly referred to as Evo 2004 or EVO 2004) was a fighting game event held at the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona in Pomona, California from July 29 to August 1. The event featured nine fighting games on the main lineup, including '' Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike'' and ''Marvel vs. Capcom 2''. While in previous Evolution events all competitions were held on arcade machines, most tournaments at Evo 2004 were played on video game consoles. Evo 2004 featured the first ''Street Fighter'' match between Daigo Umehara and Justin Wong, in which Umehara executed the " Daigo Parry". The controversial final match of the ''Soulcalibur II'' tournaments held at Evo 2004 motivated the implementation of a collusion rule still in use today. A seed is a competitor or team in a sport or other tournament who is given a preliminary ranking for the purposes of the draw. Players/teams are "planted" into the bracket in a manner that is typically intended so that the best do not meet until later in the competition, usually based on regular season.
