Viper (band)
Viper is a Brazilian heavy metal band formed in 1985 initially influenced by Iron Maiden and the new wave of British heavy metal, later developing a very particular sound. History Viper recorded their first demo tape in 1985, '' The Killera Sword'', and in 1987, they released their first album, ''Soldiers of Sunrise'' — which, despite the simple production, and the somewhat flawed English in the lyrics, showcased the degree of talent and skill of the band's members, all of them teenagers at the time. In 1989, they released ''Theatre of Fate'', notable for the metal and classical music mix, with a song based on Beethoven's ''Moonlight Sonata''; another noteworthy song is ''Living for the Night'' – possibly the favorite one of most Viper fans. Sonny Curtis
Sonny Curtis (born May 9, 1937) is an American singer and songwriter. Known for his collaborations with Buddy Holly, he was a member of the Crickets and continued with the band after Holly's death. Curtis's best known compositions include "Walk Right Back", a major hit in 1961 for the Everly Brothers and "I Fought the Law", notably covered by the Bobby Fuller Four and the Clash. Overview Curtis was born in Meadow, Texas, United States. As a guitarist, he played on some of Buddy Holly's earlier 1956 Decca sessions, including the minor hit "Blue Days Black Nights" and a song he wrote, "Rock Around With Ollie Vee". In 1955 and 1956 he, along with Buddy Holly, opened concerts for rising new star Elvis Presley. Although he had gone on the road with other musicians by the time Buddy Holly put together the Crickets in 1957, Curtis joined the Crickets in late 1958, shortly before Holly's death in 1959, and soon took over the lead vocalist role in addition to lead guitar. ''Soldiers of Sunrise'' is the first album by Brazilian heavy metal band Viper released by Rock Brigade Records in 1987. It was re-released by Massacre Records in 1992 and re-released again in 1997 by Paradoxx Music in a 2-in-1 edition with the ''Theatre of Fate'' album. Tim Maia (, born Sebastião Rodrigues Maia; September 28, 1942 – March 15, 1998) was a Brazilian musician, songwriter, and businessman known for his iconoclastic, ironic, outspoken, and humorous musical style. Heavy metal (or simply metal) is a genre of rock music that developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s, largely in the United Kingdom and United States. With roots in blues rock, psychedelic rock and acid rock, heavy metal bands developed a thick, monumental sound characterized by distortion (music), distorted guitars, extended guitar solos, emphatic Beat (music), beats and loudness. I Fought The Law
"I Fought the Law" is a song written by Sonny Curtis of the Crickets and popularized by a cover by the Bobby Fuller Four, becoming a top-ten hit for the band in 1966. Their version of the song was ranked No. 175 on the ''Rolling Stone'' list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time in 2004, and the same year was named one of the 500 "Songs that Shaped Rock" by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. A version by Sam Neely charted in 1975. The song was also recorded by the Clash in 1979. A version with different lyrics was recorded by the Dead Kennedys. Original song The song was written in 1958 by Sonny Curtis, and recorded in 1959 when he joined the Crickets, taking the place of Buddy Holly on guitar. Joe B.
