Everett W. Holstrom
Everett Wayne Holstrom (4 May 1916 – 2 December 2000) was a United States Army Air Forces bomber pilot and participant of the Doolittle Raid during World War II. He retired from the United States Air Force in 1969 at the rank of brigadier general. Early life Born on May 4, 1916 in Cottage Grove, Oregon, he graduated from Pleasant Hill High School in 1934 and on the same year, he enlisted in the Oregon Army National Guard, where he was trained as a radio operator. At the same time, he attended Oregon State College, where he majored in forestry. He enlisted in the Aviation Cadet Program of the U.S. Army Air Corps at Fort Lewis in Washington, in December 1939. Cottage Grove, Oregon
Cottage Grove is a city in Lane County, Oregon, United States. Its population was 10,643 at the 2020 census. It is the third largest city in Lane County. It is on Interstate 5, Oregon Route 99, and the main Willamette Valley line of the CORP railroad. History Cottage Grove post office was established in 1855 east of present-day Creswell. It was named by its first postmaster, G. C. Pearce, whose home was in an oak grove. Pleasant Hill High School (Oregon)
Pleasant Hill High School is a public school in Pleasant Hill, Oregon, United States, serving grades six through twelve. The school served grades nine through twelve until 2009, when the Pleasant Hill School District closed the district's elementary school because of declining enrollment and funding issues. Doolittle Raid
The Doolittle Raid, also known as the Tokyo Raid, was an air raid on 18 April 1942 by the United States on the Japanese capital Tokyo and other places on Honshu during World War II. It was the first American air operation to strike the Japanese archipelago. Although the raid caused comparatively minor damage, it demonstrated that the Japanese mainland was vulnerable to American air attacks.
