Evening
Evening is the period of a day that starts at the end of the afternoon and overlaps with the beginning of night. The exact times when evening begins and ends depend on location, time of year, and culture, but it is generally regarded as beginning when the Sun is low in the sky and lasting until the end of twilight. Depending on the speaker, it may start as early as 5 p.m. and to last until night. It may be used colloquially to include the last waning afternoon shortly before sunset. Etymology The word is derived from the Old English ''ǣfnung'', meaning 'the coming of evening, sunset, time around sunset', which originated from ''æfnian'', meaning "become evening, grow toward evening". The Old English ''æfnian'' originated from ''æfen'' (eve), which meant "the time between sunset and darkness", and was synonymous with even (Old English ''æfen''), which meant the end of the day. is a bi-weekly Japanese ''seinen'' manga magazine published by Kodansha, aimed at adult men. It is printed in black and white on newsprint and saddle-stapled in B5 format, and retails for 380 yen. Circulation was reported by the Japan Magazine Publishers Association at 115,617 copies in 2015. Susan Minot
Susan Minot (born December 7, 1956) is an American novelist, short story writer, poet, playwright, screenwriter and painter. Early life Minot was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and grew up in Manchester-by-the-Sea, Massachusetts. Her father, George Richards Minot, was born in 1927 and worked as a banker and stockbroker in Boston. Her mother, born Helen Ruth Hannon in 1929, known as Carrie Minot, was a mother and homemaker, was killed on January 16, 1978, when the car she was driving was hit at a train crossing, the signals being down after an ice storm. Career Minot's first book, '' Monkeys'', won the 1987 Prix Femina étranger in France and was published in a dozen countries. Her other books, all published internationally, are ''Lust & Other Stories,'' ''Folly,'' ''Evening,'' ''Rapture,'' ''Poems 4 A.M.'' and ''Thirty Girls''. Evening (film)
''Evening'' is a 2007 American drama film directed by Lajos Koltai. The screenplay by Susan Minot and Michael Cunningham is based on the 1998 novel of the same name by Susan Minot. Plot The film alternates between the 1950s and the present, in which a dying Ann Grant Lord (Vanessa Redgrave) reflects on her past. Her comments about people she never mentioned before leave her daughters, Constance (Natasha Richardson) and Nina (Toni Collette), wondering if she is delusional. ''Evenings'' ( nl, De Avonden) is a 1989 Dutch film directed by Rudolf van den Berg. It is based on the novel of the same title by Gerard Reve. The film was selected as the Dutch entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 63rd Academy Awards, but was not accepted as a nominee. Leading roles were played by Thom Hoffman, Rijk de Gooyer and Pierre Bokma. The film won two Golden Calf awards: best film, best actor (Thom Hoffman).
