''Evening Clothes'' is a 1927 American silent comedy film directed by Luther Reed that was produced by Famous Players-Lasky and released by Paramount. Production background The film is based on the 1920 play ''L'homme en habit'' (''The Man in Evening Clothes'') by Andre Picard and Yves Mirande. Directed by Luther Reed, the film starred Adolphe Menjou, Virginia Valli, and Louise Brooks and is currently considered a lost film. Luther Reed
Luther A. Reed (July 14, 1888 – November 16, 1961) was an American screenwriter and film director. Biography Reed was born in 1888 in Berlin, Wisconsin, and graduated from Columbia University. He worked as a journalist and the music and theater critic for the ''New York Herald'' before his film career. Reed directed such films as ''Convention Girl'', ''Dixiana'' and ''Hit the Deck.'' He also worked with Howard Hughes on the film '' Hell's Angels''. Reed was married to actress Naomi Childers until their divorce in 1929. They had one son together. He then married the actress Jocelyn Lee (born Mary Alice Simpson, 1902–1980) on June 15, 1930, but separated from her after three months and divorced her in 1931 after she attacked him in a Mexican hotel. Reed died in New York City in 1961. Louise Brooks
Mary Louise Brooks (November 14, 1906 – August 8, 1985) was an American film actress and dancer during the 1920s and 1930s. She is regarded today as an icon of the Jazz Age and flapper culture, in part due to the bob hairstyle that she helped popularize during the prime of her career. At the age of 15, Brooks began her career as a dancer and toured with the Denishawn School of Dancing and Related Arts where she performed opposite Ted Shawn. After being fired, she found employment as a chorus girl in ''George White's Scandals'' and as a semi-nude dancer in the ''Ziegfeld Follies'' in New York City. While dancing in the ''Follies'', Brooks came to the attention of Walter Wanger, a producer at Paramount Pictures, and was signed to a five-year contract with the studio. Lilyan Tashman
Lilyan Tashman (October 23, 1896 – March 21, 1934) was an American actress. Tashman was best known for her supporting roles as tongue-in-cheek villainesses or playing the vindictive "other woman". She made 66 films over the course of her Hollywood career, and although she never obtained superstar status, her cinematic performances are described as "sharp, clever and have aged little over the decades." Tall, blonde, and slender with fox-like features and a throaty voice, Tashman freelanced as a fashion and artist's model in New York City. By 1914, she was an experienced vaudevillian, appearing in Ziegfeld Follies between 1916 and 1918. André Cheron (born André Louis Duval; 24 August 1880 – 26 January 1952) was a French-born American character actor of the late silent and early sound film eras. Arnold Kent (1899 – 1928) was an Italian-born American actor. He was born in Sesto Fiorentino as Lido Manetti and acted under that name in Italy, appearing in films such as '' Goodbye Youth'' (1918) and '' Quo Vadis'' (1924).
