Evan Johns (drummer)
Evan Johns (July 12, 1956 – March 11, 2017) was an American guitarist specializing in a variety of music, including rockabilly. Early life Johns was born in Washington, DC and raised in McLean, Virginia. His mother worked for the National Symphony Orchestra. Johns dropped out of high school in the 10th grade and eventually graduated from Emerson Preparatory School. He later began hitchhiking and train-hopping around the country. Career Johns began his musical career in the Washington, D.C. area. There, Johns met and played with guitarist Danny Gatton, writing three songs (including the title track) for Gatton’s 1978 album, ''Redneck Jazz''. After his stint with Gatton, Johns founded his own band, called "the H-Bombs", which became popular playing regular gigs in the D.C. area. Among the group's fans was Jello Biafra, founder of the Dead Kennedys, who in liner notes to an H-Bombs EP, described the H-Bombs' music as "a little Tex-Mex here, garage power there, all whipped into ... ''Rockit Fuel Only'' is an album by the American musician Evan Johns, released in 1991. He is credited with his backing band, the H-Bombs. Production ''Rockit Fuel Only'' was produced by Johns, who also played mandolin on the album. It was recorded in Dallas. Drummer Jim Starboard sings lead on one track. "Dig That Boogie" is a cover of the Roy Hall song; "Burnin' Over What I Done" is about the televangelist Jimmy Swaggart. Critical reception ''Trouser Press'' wrote that "'Boogie Disease' and 'Little Scene Setter' are among the rip-it-up corkers that keep Evan Johns among rock'n'roll's guitar elite." The LeRoi Brothers
The LeRoi Brothers are an American rock band from Austin, Texas. The group was founded in 1981 by Mike Buck (also of The Fabulous Thunderbirds), Don Leady, Steve Doerr, and Alex Napier. The group was a long-running Austin bar band, but achieved national success with the album ''Open All Night'', which reached #181 on the ''Billboard'' 200 in 1987. Former member Alex Napier died on February 3, 2011, in Desoto, Texas from liver cancer, aged 59. On March 12, 2014, The LeRoi Brothers were inducted into the Austin Music Hall of Fame. Former member Evan Johns died from complications of liver disease on March 11, 2017, at the age of 60 in Austin, Texas.
