Eva Rosencrans
Eva Rosencrans (1901-1994) was an American fashion designer of Russian descent who worked mainly for her sister-in-law Nettie Rosenstein as a business partner and head designer. She designed Mamie Eisenhower's inauguration gown. Early life Born Eva Greene in Russia, she came to Manhattan as an infant with her family. She was supported by a philanthropic group called Manhattan Trade which supported children from low-income families to pursue trades. She attended the Manhattan Trade School for Girls from 1914 to 1915, where she had consistently good grades, and won first prize for her self-made graduation dress. Aged 14, the school placed her with a local dressmaker's, where she worked for a year before leaving in 1916 to work for the then up-and-coming Nettie Rosenstein. Nettie Rosenstein (1890 - March 13, 1980) was an American fashion designer, based in New York City between c.1913 and 1975. Mamie Eisenhower
Mary Geneva "Mamie" Eisenhower (; November 14, 1896 – November 1, 1979) was the first lady of the United States from 1953 to 1961 as the wife of President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Born in Boone, Iowa, she was raised in a wealthy household in Colorado. She married Dwight D. Eisenhower, then a lieutenant in the Army, in 1916. Manhattan Trade School For Girls
__NOTOC__ The Manhattan Trade School for Girls was a New York City public high school founded in 1902 by Mary Schenck Woolman, and was the first vocational school for female students established in the United States. It was established by philanthropic reformers to provide training for young women to work in trades such as garment factory work. It was originally located on West 14th Street, but was moved to East 23rd Street in 1906–1907. To accommodate growing enrollment, a new building was constructed and designed by C. B. J. Snyder in 1915 at 127 East 22nd Street. The building now houses The School of the Future, a New York City public middle school and high school. The Wall Street Crash of 1929, also known as the Great Crash, was a major American stock market crash that occurred in the autumn of 1929. It started in September and ended late in October, when share prices on the New York Stock Exchange collapsed. Ben Reig
Ben Reig (d.1968) was an American fashion businessman who ran his eponymous New York company from 1929 to 1968. The company closed in 1973. The Ben Reig company was founded in 1929. Reig employed various designers to head it up, most notably being the Hollywood costume designer Omar Kiam from 1941 to 1954. In 1946, Kiam won the Coty Award for his work at Ben Reig. In 1954, Kiam was succeeded by Edward Beckham until 1960. From 1961 to 1968, Eva Rosencrans was head designer for the label. Liz Claiborne also worked for Reig in the early 1950s when she was Kiam's assistant. Reig died in 1968. Robert Morris "Bob" Rosencrans (March 26, 1927 – August 3, 2016) was a cable television industry pioneer who helped create C-SPAN, an American public affairs television network. In addition, he helped launch the television networks BET and MSG, a predecessor of the USA Network. Early life and education Rosencrans was born on March 26, 1927, in New York City. His parents were Alvin, an Austrian immigrant who imported ornaments for women's hats, and Eva Greene, a Russian immigrant who was a fashion designer for Alvin's sister, Nettie Rosenstein. Rosencrans was raised in Woodmere, New York. He had plans to attend Dartmouth College until his older brother died in combat during World War II.
