Ben Reig
Ben Reig (d.1968) was an American fashion businessman who ran his eponymous New York company from 1929 to 1968. The company closed in 1973. The Ben Reig company was founded in 1929. Reig employed various designers to head it up, most notably being the Hollywood costume designer Omar Kiam from 1941 to 1954. In 1946, Kiam won the Coty Award for his work at Ben Reig. In 1954, Kiam was succeeded by Edward Beckham until 1960. From 1961 to 1968, Eva Rosencrans was head designer for the label. Liz Claiborne also worked for Reig in the early 1950s when she was Kiam's assistant. Reig died in 1968. Omar Kiam
Alexander "Omar" Kiam (1894 – 1954) was an American fashion designer and costume designer. Early life Born Alexander Kiam in Monterrey, Mexico, to Texan parents. Kiam picked up the nickname "Omar" at Riverview Preparatory School in Poughkeepsie, New York. He later went to the Poughkeepsie Military Academy in New York. His first job as a designer was producing caps for babies for a department store in Houston. Kiam chose to retain his nickname professionally, as he appreciated the link to Omar Khayyám. Costume design Following a stint in Paris as a student, Kiam returned to the United States and opened his studio in New York City, where he produced work for Broadway theatre. Among the theatre productions he costumed were '' Dinner at Eight'', the Robert E. Sherwood play '' Reunion in Vienna'', and the Edward Sheldon and Margaret Ayer Barnes play ''Dishonored Lady''. Coty Award
The Coty American Fashion Critics' Awards (awarded 1943–1984) were created in 1942 by the cosmetics and perfume company Coty, Inc. to promote and celebrate American fashion, and encourage design during the Second World War. In 1985, the Coty Awards were discontinued with the last presentation of the awards in September 1984; the CFDA Awards fulfill a similar role. Eva Rosencrans
Eva Rosencrans (1901-1994) was an American fashion designer of Russian descent who worked mainly for her sister-in-law Nettie Rosenstein as a business partner and head designer. She designed Mamie Eisenhower's inauguration gown. Early life Born Eva Greene in Russia, she came to Manhattan as an infant with her family. She was supported by a philanthropic group called Manhattan Trade which supported children from low-income families to pursue trades. She attended the Manhattan Trade School for Girls from 1914 to 1915, where she had consistently good grades, and won first prize for her self-made graduation dress. Aged 14, the school placed her with a local dressmaker's, where she worked for a year before leaving in 1916 to work for the then up-and-coming Nettie Rosenstein. Anne Elisabeth Jane Claiborne (March 31, 1929 – June 26, 2007) was an American fashion designer and businesswoman. Her success was built upon stylish yet affordable apparel for career women featuring colorfully tailored separates that could be mixed and matched.
