Eva Lys
Eva Lys (born 12 January 2002) is a German professional tennis player. Lys reached a career-high WTA rankings, WTA ranking of world No. 112 in singles on 17 April 2023. She has won three singles titles at tournaments of the ITF Women's Circuit. Personal Life She was born in Kyiv, Ukraine. Her father Volodymyr is a former tennis player who represented Ukraine in the Davis Cup, and currently is a coach in Hamburg. Lys' older sister Lisa Matviyenko is also a tennis player. She went to school at the Sportgymnasium Alter Teichweg in Hamburg, from where Marvin Möller and Carina Witthöft also graduated. She still has family in Ukraine, and after the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine she complained of some Russian players' "disrespectful" behaviour. Aryna Sabalenka defeated Iga Świątek in the final, 6–3, 3–6, 6–3 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2023 Madrid Open. It was her fifth WTA 1000 title. The 2023 Australian Open was a Grand Slam level tennis tournament held at Melbourne Park, from 16–29 January 2023. It was the 111th edition of the Australian Open, the 55th in the Open Era, and the first major of the year. Iga Natalia Świątek (; born 31 May 2001) is a Polish professional tennis player. She is currently ranked world No. 1 by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA). Świątek is a three-time major singles champion, having won the French Open in 2020 and 2022 and the US Open in 2022. She is the first player representing Poland to win a major singles title.
