Eva Forest
Genoveva Forest Tarrat () was a Spanish far-left activist, writer and political prisoner. Born into an anarchist family in Barcelona, she studied medicine in Madrid. During the 1970s, she supported the Basque separatist group ETA in their resistance to the government of dictator Francisco Franco. From 1974 to 1977, she was imprisoned for alleged complicity in the Cafetería Rolando bombing (1974) which killed 13 people in Madrid. After Spain's transition to democracy, she served a term as a senator from 1992 until 1993. The wife of the Spanish writer Alfonso Sastre, she died in May 2007. Forest's writings were political in nature. Her best known books include ''Operación Ogro: Cómo y por qué ejecutamos a Carrero Blanco'' (1974), an account of the assassination of the Spanish Prime Minister admiral-general Luis Carrero Blanco, and ''Testimonios de lucha y resistencia'' (1976), a testimony to the situation of political prisoners and the use of torture. Herritarren Zerrenda
The Herritarren Zerrenda (HZ, en, List of Fellow Citizens; ) is a Basque nationalist political party in Spain and France, created in 2004 to run in the European Parliament election. Since these elections were simultaneous throughout the European Union, and states were represented as single constituencies, Herritarren Zerrenda aspired for results at the national level in both countries. HZ aspired to group and represent the Abertzale Left, including the outlawed Batasuna (as Autodeterminaziorako Bilgunea had done a year before). In France they ran on a single list with Batasuna (as the party is not illegal north of the border) - a fact which did not constitute a violation of the Spanish laws. Lidia Falcón O'Neill (born 13 December 1935) is a Spanish politician and writer. With a degree in law, dramatic art, and journalism, and a PhD in philosophy, she has stood out for her defense of feminism in Spain, especially during the Transition. She was a member of the Unified Socialist Party of Catalonia (PSUC) and suffered persecution and torture for her political ideas during the Franco dictatorship. In 1976, she created the Feminist Collective of Barcelona, a feminist magazine ''Vindicación Feminista'', and the publishing house Ediciones de Feminismo. In 1977, she founded the Revolutionary Feminist Organization, from which the Feminist Party of Spain was created. Since 1979, she has directed the magazine ''Poder y libertad''. The Burgos trials (Spanish: ''Proceso de Burgos'') were a series of military tribunals held in the Spanish city of Burgos from 3 to 9 December 1970. The trials prosecuted 16 members of the Basque separatist organisation Euskadi Ta Askatasuna (ETA) for their involvement in two murders of police officers in 1968. Causing international outrage and sympathy for the defendants, the trials are best known for six death sentences handed out by the tribunals which were later commuted to lengthy prison spells. Widespread popular support for the defendants among the Basque public manifested itself in the weeks leading up to the trial. A labour strike by around 100,000 Basque workers, and the kidnapping by ETA of a German honorary consul, contributed to the significant media attention around the trials.
