European Network Of Councils For The Judiciary
The European Network of Councils for the Judiciary (ENCJ) is the European organization that unites the councils of the judiciary – national bodies in support of the Judiciary. From May 2018 the chairman is the Dutchman Kees Sterk. Presidents change every two years. The ENCJ opts for cooptation of the judiciary and against the influence of parliamentary representatives in the composition of its ranks. It played an important role in the criticism from the European Union on developments in the control of the judiciary from parliament and executive power in countries such as Holland. In the European continental judicial tradition, the national councils of the judiciary are institutions that ensure the self-management of the judiciary and the effective delivery of justice, which are autonomous or independent of the executive and legislature. Sir Geoffrey Charles Vos (born 22 April 1955) is a British judge. Since January 2021, he has held the position of Master of the Rolls, the head of civil justice in the court system of England and Wales. Early life Vos was born on 22 April 1955 to Bernard Vos and Pamela Celeste Rose. He was educated at University College School, London and Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge. Paul Gilligan (judge)
Paul Gilligan (born 1948) is a retired Irish judge who served on the High Court and subsequently the Court of Appeal. He was educated at Blackrock College. He attended University College Dublin and the King's Inns. Gilligan became a barrister in 1971 and a senior counsel in 1984. He also qualified as mediator. He was a legal advisor to an inquiry into Deposit interest retention tax conducted by the Public Accounts Committee, along with future Supreme Court judges Frank Clarke and Mary Irvine. He represented Charles Haughey at the McCracken Tribunal. Gilligan was appointed to the High Court in 2003. He managed the Chancery division of the court for several years. Roger John Laugharne Thomas, Baron Thomas of Cwmgiedd, (born Carmarthen, 22 October 1947) is a British judge. He served as Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales from 2013 to 2017.
