Eurogroup For Animals
Eurogroup for Animals is an animal protection lobby group based in Brussels, Belgium, that seeks to improve animal welfare standards in the European Union. The association represents animal protection organisations in 26 of the 27 EU Member States and several other countries. Since it was launched in 1980, the association has succeeded in ensuring that the European Union is a world leader in animal welfare standards. Indeed, following the entry into force of the Treaty of Lisbon, a requirement has been included in the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (one of the two fundamental Treaties on which the Union is founded) stating that, since animals are sentient beings, the EU Institutions and the Member States must pay full regard to the welfare requirements of animals in the formulation and implementation of Union policy. Peter Ronald Davies
Major-General Peter Ronald Davies (born 10 May 1938) is a retired British Army Officer and animal welfare campaigner. Early life and education Davies was educated at Llandovery College, Welbeck College and at Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Military career Davies was commissioned into the Royal Corps of Signals in 1958. He became the commanding officer of the 1st Armoured Division's Signals Regiment in 1976. He went on to be commander of 12th Armoured Brigade in 1982, Director of Studies of the Staff College, Camberley in 1986 and Commander Communications, British Army of the Rhine in 1988. His last appointment was as General Officer Commanding Wales in 1990 before retiring in 1991. Davies was appointed Colonel of The King's Regiment in 1986 and served in that position until 1994. World Animal Protection, formerly The World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) is an international non-profit animal rights organization that has been in operation since 1981. The charity describes its vision as: A world where animal rights matter and animal cruelty has ended. Compassion In World Farming
Compassion in World Farming (CIWF) is a campaigning and lobbying animal welfare organisation. It campaigns against the live export of animals, certain methods of livestock slaughter, and all systems of factory farming. It has received celebrity endorsements and been recognized by BBC Radio 4 for its campaigning. It has grown to a global movement with partners and supporters concerned about the welfare of farm animals. History Peter Roberts, a Hampshire dairy farmer, founded Compassion in World Farming (CIWF) in 1967. After he realized there was public support, Roberts unsuccessfully appealed to contemporary animal welfare groups to campaign against factory farming. Undeterred, Roberts began his own campaign.
