Eurofurence
Eurofurence (commonly abbreviated EF) is a furry convention held in changing places in Europe every year (in Berlin, Germany since 2014 and will remain there for the time being). It was originally started in 1995 as a private gathering by nineteen European furry fans who met on the Internet. Attendance has been steadily rising since then, to 3,495 at Eurofurence 26 (held in 2022), making it the largest furry convention outside the United States. The name of the convention derives from its American back-then-counterpart ConFurence, emphasising the European nature of the gathering. Since the year 2000, Eurofurence is no longer organized by individual persons but rather by the German Verein ''Eurofurence e.V.'', which serves as an administrative body for the convention. Contrary to most American furry conventions, Eurofurence traditionally took place at youth hostels. In 2007, Eurofurence was first held at a hotel (the Hotel Ringberg in Suhl Suhl () is a city in Thuringia, ...

Hotel Ringberg
The Ringberghaus ( German for: ''Ringberg house''), also often called Ringberghotel is a hotel east of the German city Suhl. In the 1970s, it was one of the most controversially discussed new buildings in the Suhl area. Location The Ringberghaus is built atop the 746 m high Ringberg, giving the hotel a very exposed location with high visibility. Suhl and Suhl-Goldlauter are located directly below the Ringberg, and the hotel can be seen from many vantage points of the Thuringian Forest, such as the "Plänckners Aussicht" at the Großer Beerberg, the Großer Hermannsberg or the Gebrannter Stein mountains. History Former usage The Ringberghaus was originally erected by the VdgB, an East German farmers' association. The building was opened in 1979 to provide farmers from rural areas of the GDR with affordable accommodation for holidays in the Thuringian Forest. Therefore, the Ringberghaus could only be booked with a special VdgB-issued voucher. After German reunification, ...

Furry Convention
A furry convention (also furry con or fur con) is a formal gathering of members of the furry fandom — people who are interested in the concept of fictional non-human animal characters with human characteristics. These conventions provide a place for fans to meet, exchange ideas, transact business and engage in entertainment and recreation centered on this concept. Originating in California, United States, during the mid-1980s, as of 2016 there are over 50 furry conventions worldwide each year. As of 2017, the largest furry convention is Midwest FurFest in suburban Chicago, Illinois. It had a self-reported attendance of 13,641 in 2022. Furry conventions offer a range of volunteer-led programming, usually focusing on anthropomorphic art, crafts, music and literature. Some raise money for charity. Attendees often dress up in fursuits and wear artistic name badges for identification, though the majority do not. They may also spend money on the work of amateur and professional ...

ConFurence
ConFurence was the first exclusively furry convention, held annually in southern California from 1989 to 2003. The large furry presence at the BayCon science fiction conventions instigated Mark Merlino and Rod O'Riley to throw "furry parties" at Westercon, Baycon, and other west coast sci-fi conventions in the late 80's. This led to the test gathering in 1989, ConFurence Zero. According to Joe Strike, ConFurence had a more adult vibe than today’s furry conventions. History After trying the Red Lion hotel, Confurence 0 was held at the Holiday Inn Bristol Plaza in Costa Mesa, California, on January 21 to 22, 1989. While attendance for this first serious attempt to create a "funny animal fandom" convention was sparse at 65 persons, it was enough to encourage the Californians to attempt a full-fledged furry convention next year. Attendance was doubled to 130 for the first official ConFurence convention in January 1990, proving them right. In 1997 Kare 11 reported adult oriente ...

Furry Fandom
The furry fandom is a subculture interested in anthropomorphic animal characters. Examples of anthropomorphic attributes include exhibiting human intelligence and facial expressions, speaking, walking on two legs, and wearing clothes. The term "furry fandom" is also used to refer to the community of people who gather on the internet and at furry conventions. History The furry fandom has its roots in the underground comix movement of the 1970s, a genre of comic books that depicts explicit content. In 1976, a pair of cartoonists created the amateur press association ''Vootie'', which was dedicated to animal-focused art. Many of its featured works contained adult themes, such as '' "Omaha" the Cat Dancer'', which contained explicit sex. ''Vootie'' grew a small following over the next several years, and its contributors began meeting at science fiction and comics conventions. According to fandom historian Fred Patten, the concept of ''furry'' originated at a science fiction conv ...
