The Euroa Football Netball Club, nicknamed the ''Magpies'', is an Australian rules football and netball club sited in the town of Euroa, in the north-east of Victoria. The club teams has competed in the Goulburn Valley Football League since 1971. The Goulburn Valley Football Netball League is an Australian rules football and netball competition based in the Goulburn Valley region of Victoria, Australia. It is a member of the Victorian Country Football League and has won the Victorian Country Football Championships in 2003 and 2005. History The league was initially called the Goulburn Valley District Football Association(GVDFA) and dates back to May, 1893. Clubs from the townships of Kyabram, Mooroopna, Nagambie, Nathalia, Numurkah, Shepparton, Shepparton Ramblers, Tatura, Undera and Wunghnu were present at the inaugural meeting. The five original clubs that made up the 1893 GVDFA draw were – Kyabram, Mooroopna, Shepparton, Shepparton Ramblers and Tatura with Mooroopna playing the Shepparton Ramblers in the 1893 GVDFA grand final. Jack Sambell
Jack Reginald Sambell (20 May 1908 – 22 August 1982) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Family The second son of Edgar Shadforth Tremayne Sambell (1880-1950), and Barbara Katherine Sambell (1879-1963), née McPhee, Jack Reginald Sambell was born at Violet Town, Victoria, on 20 May 1908. He married Vera May Howard (1907-1941) in 1935; she died giving birth to a stillborn child on 22 January 1941. He married Mary Irene Healy (1905-2000) in 1942. Jack Whelan (Australian Footballer)
Jack Whelan is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Brunswick in the Victorian Football Association (VFA). A ruckman and follower originally from St Kevin's College, Whelan joined Brunswick and played his first senior football there in 1947. As a player, he was unremarkable in his early years, and his preference to play without glasses meant that his near-sightedness limited his vision to about thirty yards. Whelan also involved himself in the club's administration, and was the first active player to be elected vice-president of the club, holding the role by 1950. During 1949, Whelan took the novel step of wearing contact lenses during games; contact lenses were still a relatively new and expensive invention, and Whelan's lenses cost him forty guineas. His form improved significantly and quickly, and by the 1950 season at age 26 he was one of the VFA's star followers. Ivor McIvor
Ivor Thomas McIvor (16 September 1917 – 3 April 1997) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Essendon in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Сareer McIvor, a key position player, came to Essendon from local side Don Rovers. (archived) He played two games late in the 1940 VFL season, then did not reappear in league football until 1944 due to the war. During the conflict, McIvor served in the Middle East and New Guinea. He returned to the VFL in round 17 of the 1944 season and kept his spot in the side for round 18 and both of Essendon's finals, including a preliminary final. Jack Cassin
John William Cassin (1 July 1915 – 3 September 1994) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Essendon in the Victorian Football League (VFL) over eleven seasons in twelve years, and served as the captain coach of the Euroa Football Club in 1948, and of the Colac Football Club from 1949 to 1951. Jamie Elliott (born 21 August 1992) is a professional Australian rules footballer playing for the Collingwood Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Relton Roberts (born 1 March 1986) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for Richmond Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Rory Hilton (born 15 April 1979) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Brisbane Lions and Richmond in the Australian Football League (AFL). Overview Drafted at no.3 in the 1996 AFL Draft, there were big raps on Hilton as a quality key position player. Recruited from Murray Bushrangers, at the time of the draft Hilton was recovering from injuring his ACL, the fact he would not be available to play in 1997 did not stop him being selected by the Brisbane Lions. Hayden Lamaro (born 3 October 1978) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Melbourne Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Early life Originally from Euroa in north-eastern Victoria, Lamaro played his junior football for Euroa Football Club in the Goulburn Valley Football Netball League (GVFL). Don Gross (footballer)
Donald Gross (born 1 April 1947) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Essendon in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Gross was a left footer, playing mostly as a rover and on the wings. He came from Euroa in north-east Victoria and had only just turned 18 when he made his debut in the opening round of the 1965 VFL season. His 16 games that year included a preliminary final victory over Collingwood, but a broken collarbone sustained in the win ruled him out of the grand final. Having missed out on selection in Essendon's 1965 premiership team, Gross got his chance three years later when he was named on the bench for the 1968 VFL Grand Final, but they would lose to Carlton by just three points.
