EuroChicago ( bg, Еврочикаго) is a Bulgarian news and media portal started in 2003 by Petar Stamatov. It covers Bulgarian news, with a special emphasis on the Bulgarian diaspora. About EuroChicago.com is a media outlet updated every day, with the most attention given to the gathering and reporting of news, but the site has many other sections, including photo galleries, forums, polls and contests. Most of the published stories are original content. The website has been quoted by the largest Bulgarian media outlets, including the Bulgarian News Agency. In addition, articles in English and Russian have been cited by American and European newspapers and websites. Bulgarian Language
Bulgarian (, ; bg, label=none, български, bălgarski, ) is an Eastern South Slavic language spoken in Southeastern Europe, primarily in Bulgaria. It is the language of the Bulgarians. Along with the closely related Macedonian language (collectively forming the East South Slavic languages), it is a member of the Balkan sprachbund and South Slavic dialect continuum of the Indo-European language family. The two languages have several characteristics that set them apart from all other Slavic languages, including the elimination of case declension, the development of a suffixed definite article, and the lack of a verb infinitive. They retain and have further developed the Proto-Slavic verb system (albeit analytically). Bulgarian Diaspora
The Bulgarian diaspora includes Bulgarians living outside Bulgaria and its surrounding countries, as well as immigrants from Bulgaria abroad. The number of Bulgarians outside Bulgaria has sharply increased since 1989, following the Revolutions of 1989 in Central and Eastern Europe. Over one million Bulgarians have left the country, either permanently or as a temporary workforce, leading to a marked decline in its population. Many took advantage of the US green card lottery system. Also, many Bulgarians immigrated to Canada using the advantage of the Canadian immigration point system for skilled workers. Others went across the European Union. In countries such as Germany and Spain where many Bulgarians work and stay there intermittently, while retaining Bulgaria as their permanent residence. The Bulgarian News Agency ( bg, Българска телеграфна агенция, lit=Bulgarian Telegraph Agency, abbreviated БТА, BTA) is the national news agency of Bulgaria. ''Trud'' ( bg, Труд, en, Labor), is a Bulgarian tabloid daily newspaper. The newspaper's first issue came out on 1 March 1936, making it one of the oldest Bulgarian newspapers still in existence. From 3 January 1994 to 31 December 2008 it was known as ''Dneven Trud'' (Дневен Труд, ''Daily Labor''). History The first issue of the newspaper came on 1 March 1936 and it was the first weekly newspaper in Bulgaria. It was delivered only to the big towns Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna in the first year. The Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ), formerly known as Sigma Delta Chi, is the oldest organization representing journalists in the United States.
