Eugène Schaus
Eugène Schaus (12 May 1901 – 29 March 1978) was a Luxembourgian politician and jurist. Schaus was a leading light in the early days of the Democratic Party, of which he would be President from 1952 until 1959. Schaus held office in a number of governments, under Pierre Dupong and Pierre Werner, over a period of thirty years. He served as the Deputy Prime Minister, a position created especially for Schaus, in Werner's first government. He would serve in this capacity again (1969–1974), as well as holding a number of other high offices. Career An experienced lawyer, Schaus was elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 1937, in which he served until 1940, when the country was occupied by Nazi Germany and the Chamber was suspended. Having refused to swear allegiance to the occupying forces, Eugene Schaus, his wife and their three children spent most of the war in German deportation camps in Eastern Europe, and returned only at the end of the war. Marcel Fischbach
Marcel Fischbach (22 August 1914 – 27 June 1980) was a Luxembourgish politician, journalist, and diplomat. He held the position of Minister for Defence in the second cabinet of Pierre Werner. From 1939, he wrote for d'Wort, a daily newspaper. After the Second World War, Fischbach sat in both the Chamber of Deputies (1945 – 1958 and 1959 – 1964) and Luxembourg City's Luxembourg communal council (1945 – 1964). On 15 July 1964, he became Minister for Defence. During this time, Fischbach was responsible for the reduction of national service from nine months to six months. However, a political crisis erupted in late 1966 over the final transformation of the Luxembourgian army into an all-volunteer force, over which Fischbach resigned from the cabinet, and retired from politics, on 3 January 1967. Henry Cravatte
Henry Cravatte (born 21 May 1911 Diekirch; died 4 November 1990 Ettelbrück) was a Luxembourgish politician. Political activity Cravatte studied Jurisprudence and in 1936 became lawyer in Diekirch. His political career began in 1951 when he was placed on the list of the Workers' Party. He was elected to the local council and later as the mayor of Diekirch. From 1953 to 1957 he was a member of the Comité -director. In the period from 1958 to 1959 he was State Secretary of the economy. Victor Bodson
Victor Nicolas Bodson (24 March 1902 – 29 June 1984) was a Luxembourgish politician and lawyer who held a number of political posts during his career. He is recognised as Righteous Among the Nations awarded by Yad Vashem for his actions during the Holocaust in occupied Luxembourg, in which he helped Jews escape persecution from the German government. Life Bodson was born on 24 March 1902 in Luxembourg City. He practiced as a lawyer in Luxembourg, and was a motorcyclist (Luxembourgish champion in 1926) and swimmer.
