Ettore Roesler Franz
Ettore Roesler Franz (11 May 1845 – 26 March 1907) was an Italian painter and photographer. He was among the most prolific Italian watercolorists and vedutisti of the late nineteenth century. Biography He was born to a family of German ancestry, that had moved to Rome from Sudetenland at the beginning of the 18th century. After attending a Catholic school, he began his artistic studies at the age of eighteen at the Accademia di San Luca. From 1864 to 1872, he was employed at the British consulate, where he met Joseph Severn, an artist who was serving as Consul (representative), Consul. It was Severn who first introduced him to watercolors, the medium that would become his preferred technique. In 1875, he and Nazzareno Cipriani developed a proposal that would become the (Association of Watercolorists). Ramón Tusquets Y Maignon
Raimondo or Ramón Tusquets y Maignon (Barcelona, 1837 - Rome, 11 March 1904) was an Italian-Spanish painter, known for his eclectic subjects, ranging from orientalist themes, historical compositions to genre scenes of the countryside in Campania. Biography Tusquets was a son of a wealthy Barcelonese merchant who obligated him, in the first years of his adult life, to continue the family line of commerce. After his father died, Tusquets became an artist. He began his studies with a local artist named Ramón Moliné and shortly after, subsidized his own move to Rome, where he studied in the Chigi Academy and established relations with the circle of Catalan painters who were settled there. While he remained in Italy, he never severed artistic links with Spain. In 1867 he sent to the National Exhibition a painting titled “El mendigo o Periódico” (The beggar or Newspaper) awarded a medal of third class. Ponte Rotto
The Pons Aemilius ( it, Ponte Emilio), today called Ponte Rotto, is the oldest Roman stone bridge in Rome, Italy. Preceded by a wooden version, it was rebuilt in stone in the 2nd century BC. It once spanned the Tiber, connecting the Forum Boarium with Trastevere; a single arch in mid-river is all that remains today, lending the bridge its name ''Ponte Rotto'' ("Broken bridge"). Piazza Barberini
Piazza Barberini is a large piazza in the ''centro storico'' or city center of Rome, Italy and situated on the Quirinal Hill. It was created in the 16th century but many of the surrounding buildings have subsequently been rebuilt. The current appellation was given in 1625 when it was named after the Palazzo Barberini, the substantial Baroque palace built in an elevated position on the south side of the piazza for the Barberini. Originally, there was a large entrance gateway to the palace designed by the Baroque painter and architect Pietro da Cortona on the south east corner of the piazza but this was demolished to make way for the construction of a new road in the 19th century. San Crisogono, Rome
San Crisogono is a church in Rome (rione Trastevere) dedicated to the martyr Saint Chrysogonus. It was one of the tituli, the first parish churches of Rome, and was probably built in the 4th century under Pope Sylvester I (314–335). The area beneath the sacristy was investigated by Fr. L. Manfredini and Fr. C. Piccolini in 1907. They found remains of the first church. The area was then excavated and studied. The church is served by Trinitarians. The Campo Verano (Italian: ''Cimitero del Verano'') is a cemetery in Rome, Italy, founded in the early 19th century. The monumental cemetery is currently divided into sections: the Jewish cemetery, the Catholic cemetery, and the monument to the victims of World War I. History The Verano (officially the "Communal Monumental Cemetery of Campo Verano") is located in the quartiere Tiburtino of Rome, near the Basilica of San Lorenzo fuori le mura. The name ''verano'' refers to the Ancient Roman ''campo dei Verani'' that was located here. The zone contained ancient Christian catacombs. A modern cemetery was not established until the Napoleonic Kingdom of Italy during 1807–1812, when the architect Giuseppe Valadier was commissioned for designs after the required burials to take place outside of the city walls. The Order of the Crown of Italy ( it, Ordine della Corona d'Italia, italic=no or OCI) was founded as a national order in 1868 by King Vittorio Emanuele II, to commemorate the unification of Italy in 1861. It was awarded in five degrees for civilian and military merit. Today the Order of the Crown has been replaced by the Order of Merit of Savoy and is still conferred on new knights by the current head of the house of Vittorio Emanuele, Prince of Naples. Umberto's reign saw Italy attempt colonial expansion into the Horn of Africa, successfully gaining Eritrea and Somalia despite being defeated by Abyssinia at the Battle of Adwa in 1896.
