Ethel Borden Harriman
Ethel Borden Harriman (December 11, 1897July 4, 1953) was an American heiress, actress, and author who worked as a screenwriter at MGM and RKO during the 1930s. Early life Ethel Harriman was born into a wealthy New York family in 1897. Her father, J. Borden Harriman, was a banker, and her mother, Florence "Daisy" Hurst, was a suffragette and diplomat who served as the Minister to Norway after her father's death. Her paternal grandparents were Laura ( Low) Harriman and banker Oliver Harriman. Her maternal grandparents were Caroline Eliza ( Jaffray) Hurst and F. W. J. Hurst, who became wealthy in the cross-Atlantic shipping business. Ethel served with the Women's Ambulance Service in France during World War I, and afterward spent two years as an actress in a theatrical stock company. Florence Jaffray "Daisy" Harriman (July 21, 1870 – August 31, 1967) was an American socialite, suffragist, social reformer, organizer, and diplomat. "She led one of the suffrage parades down Fifth Avenue, worked on campaigns on child labor and safe milk and, as minister to Norway in World War II, organized evacuation efforts while hiding in a forest from the Nazi invasion." Anne Harriman Sands Rutherfurd Vanderbilt (February 17, 1861 – April 20, 1940) was an American heiress known for her marriages to prominent men and her role in the development of the Sutton Place neighborhood as a fashionable place to live. Early life Anne Harriman was born on February 17, 1861. She was one of eight children born to banker Oliver Harriman (1829–1904) and Laura (née Low) Harriman (1834–1901). Pamela Sydney Frankau (3 January 1908 – 8 June 1967) was a popular English novelist from a prominent artistic and literary family. She was abandoned by her novelist father Gilbert Frankau at an early age, and she became a prolific writer. She stopped writing for a decade after the death of her lover, the poet Humbert Wolfe, in 1940. Early life Helen Dinsmore Huntington was born on April 9, 1893, to Helen Gray Dinsmore (1868–1942) and Robert Palmer Huntington (1869–1949), an independently wealthy architect and tennis champion.
