Estúpido Cupido
''Estúpido Cupido'' is a Brazilian telenovela produced by TV Globo. It aired from 25 August 1976 to 26 February 1977 at 7pm. Written by Mário Prata and directed by Régis Cardoso, it was the last Globo telenovela recorded in black-and-white, with the exception of the last two chapters, directed by Walter Avancini using the then new color technology. It was the first telenovela written by Mário Prata. Due to the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, ''Estúpido Cupido'' debuted exceptionally on a Wednesday. The telenovela was re-aired in Brazil starting in May 1979, at 2pm. Plot The story takes place in the fictional city of ''Albuquerque, São Paulo'', in the beginning of the 1960s. It revolves around the loves of youth, having as background the American music of the time: rock ballads and rock and roll. Som Livre
Som Livre (Portuguese for "''Free Sound''") is a Brazilian record company that was founded in 1969 in order to commercialize its soap opera soundtracks. It later expanded to recording studio albums. Today, Som Livre is Brazil's largest domestic label and was formerly part of Grupo Globo, which is the biggest media conglomerate in Brazil. In November 2020, Globo placed the label up for sale. In April 2021, it was acquired by Sony Music Entertainment for an undisclosed amount. Twist (dance)
The twist is a dance that was inspired by rock and roll music. From 1959 to the early sixties it became a worldwide dance craze, enjoying immense popularity while drawing controversies from critics who felt it was too provocative. It inspired dances such as the Jerk, the Pony, the Watusi, the Mashed Potato, the Monkey, and the Funky Chicken, but none were as popular. Having seen teenagers in Tampa, Florida doing the dance, Hank Ballard wrote " The Twist", which became the B-side of Hank Ballard and The Midnighters' 1959 single "Teardrops on Your Letter". Dick Clark, having noticed the dance becoming popular among teenagers, recommended to Cameo Records that the more wholesome Chubby Checker rerecord the song, which was released in 1959 and became a number one hit in 1960.
