Estonia In The Eurovision Song Contest 1997
Estonia made their third Eurovision Song Contest appearance in 1997. The preselection for the Eurovision Song Contest 1997 final would follow the same format of previous years, with a judging panel selecting the song and artist that would represent Estonia in the final. The judges would eventually choose Maarja-Liis Ilus again, making her the first Estonian entrant to have made back-to-back appearances in the Eurovision Song Contest. In the final, Ilus finished 8th. Before Eurovision Eurolaul 1997 The final took place at the Linnahall in Tallinn, Estonia, and was hosted by Marko Reikop and Anu Välba. Eight different songs were entered, with Pearu Paulus, Hanna-Liina Võsa and Maarja-Liis Ilus performing on more than one entry. Maarja-Liis Ilus, sometimes better known by her performing name Maarja (born 24 December 1980) is an Estonian pop music, pop musician and presenter. She has represented Estonia in the Eurovision Song Contest twice. She was only 15 when she participated in the 1996 contest. The Eurovision Song Contest (), sometimes abbreviated to ESC and often known simply as Eurovision, is an international songwriting competition organised annually by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), featuring participants representing primarily European countries. The Eurovision Song Contest 1997 was the 42nd edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest, held on 3 May 1997 at the Point Theatre in Dublin, Ireland. Linnahall
Linnahall ( et, Tallinna Linnahall, 'Tallinn City Hall') (originally the V. I. Lenin Palace of Culture and Sports) is a multi-purpose venue in Tallinn, Estonia. It is situated in the harbor, just beyond the walls of the Old Town, and was completed in 1980. The venue also features a heliport and a small seaport. Marko Reikop
Marko Reikop (born 19 June 1969 in Tallinn) is an Estonian TV host. He graduated from the Tallinn University on bibliography and is employed by radio and TV channels of the Estonian Public Broadcasting since 1991. He has presented the Estonian national finals for Eurovision Song Contest and made a live commentary for the event. From 2009 and on he presents the daily talk show '' Ringvaade'' together with Anu Välba (along with Grete Lõbu since autumn of 2013). Anu Välba
Anu Välba (born 14 May 1974) is an Estonian TV and radio host. She graduated from Tallinn University in television directing in 1998 but has been working as a hostess instead. Her credits include the TV morning programme " Terevisioon", weekly "Paar", " Hommik Anuga" and daily " Ringvaade", all but one co-hosted with Marko Reikop. She was also involved with Eurovision Song Contest 2002 where she did off-screen editing for video postcards shown between the competing songs. On the radio, she has co-worked for the programmes of Vikerraadio and Raadio 2 Raadio 2 is Estonian radio station. Leelo Tungal (born 22 June 1947 in Tallinn) is an Estonian poet, children's writer, translator, editor and librettist. Life and career Tungal studied Estonian literature at the University of Tartu. After her graduation, she has worked as a teacher, editor, drama and literature consultant for the Estonian Puppet Theatre, and as a freelance writer. In 1994, she founded the children's magazine ''Hea Laps'', and worked as its editor-in-chief until January 2019. She has published over 80 books of prose and poetry for children and young adults, has written several libretti for Estonian composers, and has translated children's poetry and plays from Bulgarian, English, Finnish, Russian, and several other languages. Hannah Ild (' Pruuli; born 12 May 1981), known professionally as Hannah, is an Estonian songwriter, singer, and pianist of ballads and classic pop. Early life and education Ild's interest in music began at an early age. She began singing even before she could speak. When she was three years old, she joined the Children Music Studio. From there she went on to join the Estonian Radio Singing Studio. When she was seven, Hannah Ild joined the elite Estonian Television Music Choir. At the same time she also began to attend the Tallinn Music School. Here she realized her talent for playing piano. By the time she was thirteen, she had produced her first song called "Childhood Land", composing lyrics and music together, which won first place in the Estonian Children's Song Competition in 1995.
