Esther Faiaoga-Tilo
Esther Faiaoga-Tilo (born 26 September 1994) is a New Zealand rugby union player. She plays for the Blues Women in the Super Rugby Aupiki competition. Rugby career Faiaoga-Tilo played for Hurricanes Poua in the inaugural season of Super Rugby Aupiki in 2022. She then moved up north after she was released by Hurricanes Poua to try-out for the Blues. The Blues initially overlooked her, but after encouragement from some of her former teammates she decided to attend an open training session for the Blues where she impressed enough to receive a mid-season callup for 2023. Faiaoga-Tilo was named in the Black Ferns 30-player squad as an injury cover to compete in the Pacific Four Series and O’Reilly Cup. She started in her international debut against the United States on 14 July 2023, at Ottawa. The Waikato Rugby Union (WRU) is the official governing body of rugby union in the Waikato area in the North Island of New Zealand. Headquartered in Hamilton, WRU was founded in 1921. Hurricanes Poua are a New Zealand women's professional rugby union team based in Wellington, New Zealand that competes in the Super Rugby Aupiki competition. History Team name On 7 February 2022, The Hurricanes revealed the new name of their women’s team – Hurricanes Poua. The new team identity was developed collaboratively by a select committee that included past and present Black Ferns. They drew from preexisting Māori narratives, the team’s identity has a connection to both the Hurricanes region and their people. The name Poua was derived from the Māori narrative of Ranginui (sky father) and Papatūānuku (earthmother). The Blues Women's team (known as the Nib Health Funds, nib Blues Women for sponsorship reasons) is a New Zealand professional women's rugby union team based in Auckland, New Zealand that competes in the Super Rugby Aupiki competition. Super Rugby Aupiki is a professional women's rugby union club competition in New Zealand. Its inaugural season was held in March 2022. It is a steppingstone between the Farah Palmer Cup and the Black Ferns. Aupiki translates as ‘''the ascent to the upper most realm''’. Format Initially the four teams were supposed to have three regular season matches with one home and away game, and one Super Round fixture. The top two teams at the end of the three rounds would contest the final. However, the competition was reformatted as a round robin fixture because of the impact of COVID-19. New Zealand Women's National Rugby Union Team
The New Zealand women's rugby union team, called the Black Ferns, represents New Zealand in women's international rugby union, which is regarded as the country's national sport. 2023 Pacific Four Series
The 2023 Pacific Four Series was the third edition of the Pacific Four Series, an international women's rugby union tournament that served as one of the principal qualification routes for the top two tiers of WXV. The tournament was hosted by Spain, Australia and Canada. The series took place over three months. The first round saw Canada and the United States play the opening match in Madrid on 1 April 2023, followed by Australia hosting New Zealand on 29 June 2023 in Brisbane. The series concluded in Canada with all four teams competing over two weekends in early July for the title. The 2023 Laurie O'Reilly Cup was the 14th edition of the rugby union competition. Australia hosted the Black Ferns in the first O’Reilly Cup match on June 29 in Brisbane, it also doubled as a Pacific Four Series test.
