Estadio Corregidora
Estadio Corregidora is a stadium in Querétaro City, Mexico. Named for Mexican War of Independence heroine Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez ("La Corregidora"), it has a capacity of 33,162 and is located on the outskirts of the city of Querétaro, north of Mexico City. The venue is used mostly for football games as the home of Querétaro FC. It is also used for concerts, hosting internationally known pop stars like Rod Stewart, Miguel Bosé, and Shakira, among others. The stadium is considered one of the most notable stadiums in Mexico. Its design allows for the safe exit of all spectators, even if full, in less than seven minutes. Estadio Azul
Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes (English: “Sports City Stadium”; formerly Estadio Azul) is a 33,000-seat stadium located in Ciudad de los Deportes, Mexico City. This sports facility is used for association football matches and for American football as well. The Tazón México has been played at the stadium. It was the home of Mexican football club Cruz Azul until 2018, hence the previous nickname of ''Estadio Azul'', and the Mexico national football team, especially in the early 1990s. In summer 2016, it was announced by Mexico City authorities that plans to demolish the stadium would begin at the end of the 2017-2018 Liga MX season. 1986 FIFA World Cup Knockout Stage
The 1986 FIFA World Cup knockout stage was the second and final stage of the 1986 FIFA World Cup finals in Mexico. The stage began on 15 June 1986, and ended with the final at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City on 29 June 1986. Sixteen teams advanced to the knockout stage to compete in a single-elimination style tournament: The top two teams from each of the six groups, as well as the best four third-placed teams. In the round of 16, the four third-placed teams played against four of the group winners from group A-D, with the remaining two group winners from group E and F taking on two of the group runners-up; the remaining four runners-up were paired off against each other. Group E of the 1986 FIFA World Cup was one of the groups of nations competing at the 1986 FIFA World Cup. The group's first round of matches began on 4 June and its last matches were played on 13 June. Matches were played at the Estadio La Corregidora in Querétaro and at the Estadio Neza 86 in Nezahualcóyotl. 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup
The 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup was the fourteenth tournament of the FIFA U-17 World Cup, and the eleventh played since the change in age limits from under 16s to Under 17s in 1991. It was held in Mexico with games being played amongst various venues between 18 June and 10 July 2011. Mexico won the Cup, being the first team to achieve it as hosts defeating Uruguay 2–0 and managing their second title in the category. Querétaro–Atlas Riot
On 5 March 2022, during a Liga MX football match between Querétaro F.C. and Atlas F.C., a riot broke out between fans attending the match at Estadio Corregidora in Mexico. Videos posted on social media showed groups of men beating, kicking, whipping, dragging and stripping victims. According to the Querétaro state's civil protection agency initial statement, at least 22 men were injured. This number was updated to 26 the following morning. Claims of death among supporters attacked during the riot is disputed. While no deaths were officially confirmed, some deaths were reported by Atlas fans. David Medrano Félix, a journalist from TV Azteca, originally announced that there had been 17 deaths, but later retracted his report. 1986 FIFA World Cup
The 1986 FIFA World Cup was the 13th FIFA World Cup, a quadrennial football tournament for men's senior national teams. It was played in Mexico from 31 May to 29 June 1986. The tournament was the second to feature a 24-team format. Colombia had been originally chosen to host the competition by FIFA but, largely due to economic reasons, was not able to do so, and resigned in 1982. Mexico was selected as the new host in May 1983, and became the first country to host the World Cup more than once, after previously hosting in 1970. The World Cup was won by Argentina (their second title, after winning in 1978).
