Eske Brun
Eske Brun (May 25, 1904 – October 11, 1987) was a high civil servant in Greenland and in relation to Greenland from 1932 to 1964. Early life and career. Eske Brun was born in Aalborg in the northern part of Jutland, Denmark. Eske Brun was baptized on the 12th of July, 1904, at Ålborg Vor Frue parish. Aalborg County. DK. His father, Charles Brun (Denmark) died when he was 15, on January 28, 1919, at the age of 52. Eske Brun and his mother, Rigmor Hansen (Including two sisters and three brothers) moved to Ordrup north of Copenhagen. He began studying in 1922, and received a law-degree from the University of Copenhagen in 1929. In 1932, at the age of 28, Eske Brun first visited Greenland, and was given a substitute job as governor of North Greenland situated in Godhavn, Greenland. The Greenland Patrol was a United States Coast Guard operation during World War II. Ib Knud Poulsen
Ib (Knud) Poulsen (April 29, 1909 - September 21, 1994) was the Danish-originating Captain of the Sirius Patrol, making him the first commander of a Greenlandic military force, as well as a Legion of Merit recipient, the only person in history to directly command the Patrol, and the sole historic commander of the "Army of Greenland". He was also a Radio and Telegraph operator and bookseller. Early life Ib Poulsen was born of April 29, 1909, evidently Danish, he was reportedly born in a "provincial town" somewhere in Denmark. Nothing is known about his mother, but his father was a bookseller. He served his apprenticeship in a variety of bookshops in Copenhagen. Cryolite ( Na3 Al F6, sodium hexafluoroaluminate) is an uncommon mineral identified with the once-large deposit at Ivittuut on the west coast of Greenland, mined commercially until 1987. History Cryolite was first described in 1798 by Danish veterinarian and physician Peder Christian Abildgaard (1740–1801); it was obtained from a deposit of it in Ivigtut (old spelling) and nearby Arsuk Fjord, Southwest Greenland. Ivittuut (formerly, Ivigtût) (Kalaallisut: "Grassy Place") is an abandoned mining town near Cape Desolation in southwestern Greenland, in the modern Sermersooq municipality on the ruins of the former Norse Middle Settlement. Ivittuut is one of the few places in the world so far discovered to have naturally occurring cryolite (Na3AlF6, sodium aluminum fluoride), an important agent in modern aluminum extraction.
