Esiliiga
The Esiliiga is the second division in the Estonian football league system. The Esiliiga is ranked below the Meistriliiga and above the Esiliiga B. As in most countries with low temperatures in winter time, the season starts in March and ends in November. The league features several reserve teams of Meistriliiga clubs. According to the rules set by the Estonian Football Association, reserve teams are ineligible for promotion to the Meistriliiga, but can play in the Estonian Cup. Competition format During the season, the teams play each of the other four times, twice at home and twice away. This makes for a total of 36 games played each season. The teams gain three points for a win, one for a draw, and none for a defeat. Promotion and relegation between divisions is a central feature of the league. Maardu Linnameeskond
Maardu Linnameeskond is a football club based in Maardu, Estonia. The team compete in the II liiga, the fourth tier of the Estonian football league system. They adopted their current name in 2016, before being promoted to the Estonian top tier Meistriliiga for the first time in 2019. They were relegated the following season and played in Esiliiga for the next two seasons. After winning 2021 Esiliiga they should have been promoted to Meistriliiga, but due to financial reasons they waived the opportunity and were relegated to II liiga, taking their reserve squad's place. Egert Õunapuu (born 30 April 2005) is an Estonian footballer who plays as a striker for Meistriliiga club Nõmme United. Club career Õunapuu is a youth academy graduate of Nõmme United. He made his senior team debut for the club on 23 August 2020 in a 3–0 league defeat against Vaprus. Ats Purje (born 3 August 1985) is an Estonian professional footballer who plays as a forward for Tallinna Kalev. Club career Early career Purje began playing football at Tallinna Jalgpallikool, where he was coached by Aivar Tiidus. He made his senior league debut in the IV liiga with SC Real in 2001. Levadia In 2003, Purje joined Meistriliiga club Levadia. FC Nõmme United
FC Nõmme United is an Estonian football club based in Nõmme, a district in Tallinn. The club was founded in 2000. They currently play in the Esiliiga, the second-highest division in the Estonian football. Their home ground is Männiku staadion. Led by Mart Poom, the club is renowned for its strong youth system. History The club was founded in 2000 by Enn Loog and was initially named FC Elion, before the name was changed to FC Nõmme United in 2006.
