Eschatone Records
Eschatone is a New York-based record label founded in 2006 by Jed Davis, Joseph Slevin, and Lisa Brennan. With no allegiance to any genre, Eschatone releases the work of artists including Brian Dewan, The Visitors, wax.on wax.off, Michael Bassett, and several of Davis' projects, including The Hanslick Rebellion, Skyscape, and Bassett's solo work. It has also released work by Peg, Hand Habits, and The Valley Arena, as well as early-1970s Jobriath recordings. In May 2008, the Zakka artspace in Dumbo, Brooklyn honored the label with a gallery show, ''The Art Of Eschatone Records'', featuring album art by Dewan, Mike Allred, Michael Doret, Arturo Vega, Hatch Show Print and Justin Marc Lloyd. After issuing its first half-dozen releases solely on compact disc, Eschatone began pressing audiophile-grade LPs with Michael Bassett's ''Soft Verges''. LP Record
The LP (from "long playing" or "long play") is an analog sound storage medium, a phonograph record format characterized by: a speed of rpm; a 12- or 10-inch (30- or 25-cm) diameter; use of the "microgroove" groove specification; and a vinyl (a copolymer of vinyl chloride acetate) composition disk. Introduced by Columbia in 1948, it was soon adopted as a new standard by the entire record industry. Apart from a few relatively minor refinements and the important later addition of stereophonic sound, it remained the standard format for record albums (during a period in popular music known as the album era) until its gradual replacement from the 1980s to the early 2000s, first by cassettes, then by compact discs, and finally by digital music distribution. Sevendys is a collaborative musical project featuring rock musicians of several generations. The quintet of Jed Davis (keyboards/vocals), Avi Zahner-Isenberg (guitars/vocals), Sheridan Riley (drums/vocals), Chuck Rainey (bass) and Jerry Marotta Jerome David Marotta (born February 6, 1956, in Cleveland, Ohio) is an American drummer who resides in Woodstock, New York. JAXART Records is a Southern California based record label founded in 2007 by Ashley Jex of the MP3 blog Rock Insider. The label began releasing vinyl and digital albums for artists from Southern California and beyond. 8-track Tape
The 8-track tape (formally Stereo 8; commonly called eight-track cartridge, eight-track tape, and eight-track) is a magnetic tape sound recording technology that was popular from the mid-1960s to the early 1980s, when the compact cassette, which pre-dated the 8-track system, surpassed it in popularity for pre-recorded music. The format was most popular in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Mexico, Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Sweden and Japan. One advantage of the 8-track tape cartridge was that it could play continuously, and did not have to be "flipped over" to play the entire tape. Cylinder Record
Phonograph cylinders are the earliest commercial medium for recording and reproducing sound. Commonly known simply as "records" in their era of greatest popularity (c. 1896–1916), these hollow cylindrical objects have an audio recording engraved on the outside surface, which can be reproduced when they are played on a mechanical cylinder phonograph. In the 1910s, the competing disc record system triumphed in the marketplace to become the dominant commercial audio medium. Early development In December 1877, Thomas Edison and his team invented the phonograph using a thin sheet of tin foil wrapped around a hand-cranked, grooved metal cylinder.
