Esbjerg IK
Esbjerg IK is an ice hockey club in Esbjerg, Denmark, with several youth and amateurs' teams. They have played their home games at Esbjerg Skøjtehal since 1976. History Esbjerg IK was founded on November 4, 1964, however, there was already an ice hockey team in Esbjerg before they were founded. With seven Danish championships, and ten runners-up, they are one of the most successful Danish clubs. They took part in the IIHF European Champions Cup several times. In the 1969-70 season, the club was defeated by EV Füssen 6-1, and 9-2. In the 1988-89 European Cup, they participated in a group with HC Dosza Ujpest, Dynamo Berlin, and CSKA Moscow. They lost 4-2 to Ujpest, 8-3 to Berlin, and 21-1 to Moscow. Esbjerg also participated in the IIHF Continental Cup in 1998 and 2005. Esbjerg Energy
The Esbjerg Energy is a Denmark, Danish professional ice hockey team based in Esbjerg, Denmark, playing in the Metal Ligaen, the top tier of Danish ice hockey. The club was founded in 2005 and play their home games in the Granly Hockey Arena which has a capacity of 4,200 spectators. Until 2004 the team played under the name of Esbjerg IK, E.I.K. (Esbjerg Ishockey Klub), but due to financial instability at the club, the professional license was transferred to Esbjerg fB. Jukka Vilander (born 27 November 1962) is a former professional Finnish ice hockey forward. He is a four time Finnish champion with HC TPS (1989, 1990, 1991, 1993) and is 1996 Danish Champion with EfB Ishockey. He has made SM-liiga All-Star Team in 1988–89 season. Philip Elzer Gade Larsen (born 7 December 1989) is a Danish professional ice hockey defenceman. He is currently playing with Esbjerg Energy of the Metal Ligaen (DEN). He was originally drafted 149th overall by the Dallas Stars in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. Playing career Larsen came to Rögle BK's junior team at age 15. Metal Ligaen is the premier league in Danish ice hockey. The league consists of 9 professional teams. The name of the league has changed many times, but is being sponsored by Dansk Metal and therefore got the name Metalligaen. History It is also known as Superisligaen or Eliteserien, which is the name used in the past and in times where no naming rights agreement is in place. On 1 January 2014 Danish Metal (Dansk Metal) became the sponsor of the Danish ice hockey league, which changed the name to Metal Ligaen, replacing the previous name AL-Bank Ligaen which was named for the sponsorship deal with the Danish bank Arbejdernes Landsbank. IIHF Continental Cup
The Continental Cup is a second-level ice hockey tournament for European clubs (behind Champions Hockey League), begun in 1997 after the discontinuing of the European Cup. It was intended for teams from countries without representatives in the European Hockey League, with participating teams chosen by the countries' respective ice hockey associations. Hans Dobida served as chairman of the Continental Cup until 2018. Format The competition began in 1997–98 with 42 clubs from 26 countries, which expanded to 48 teams for the next two years.
