Ernst Thälmann Island
The Ernst Thälmann Island ( es, Cayo Ernesto Thaelmann or ; german: Ernst-Thälmann-Insel or ) is a long and island in the Gulf of Cazones that is named after Ernst Thälmann, a German communist politician. During a 1970s state visit to the German Democratic Republic (East Germany), Fidel Castro made a promise that Cuba would donate an island to the East German government, and Cayo Blanco del Sur was renamed in a ceremony during a state visit by Erich Honecker. But after the reunification of Germany, when a German newspaper tried to visit the island, they were told this transfer had only been "symbolic". Gulf Of Cazones
Gulf of Cazones () is a large gulf in southern Cuba. It is located at the south by the provinces of Matanzas and Cienfuegos, between the northeast edge of the Jardinillos Bank on the south, and Piedras and other cays and reefs on the north. It is considered dangerous for sailing vessels to cross because of calms and cross currents. Geography Two miles east-northeast of the south point of Diego Perez Cay is the beginning of the northeast section of the Jardinillos (or Jardines) bank which continues to the southeast of East Rock. East Rock is situated approximately a cable from the northeast end of East Guano Cay, to which it is connected by a reef. Frank Schöbel
Frank Schöbel (born 11 December 1942, Leipzig, Saxony, Germany) is a German musician. He was one of the most successful pop singers in socialist East Germany (GDR), and has continued to perform even after German reunification. Career As the second son of an opera singer, his early musical talent was discovered. He started his career in the GDR as a musician, but also appeared as a presenter and entertainer in TV shows and played in DEFA (GDR-state film production company) films. In 1971, he recorded "Wie ein Stern" (Like a Star), which appeared in the acclaimed 2007 film ''The Lives of Others''. This single was a smash hit in East Germany, selling 400,000 records from East Germany's Amiga, and 150,000 from the West German record company Philips. The Republic of Molossia, also known as Molossia (), is a micronation claiming sovereignty over of land near Dayton, Nevada. The micronation has not received recognition from any of the member states of the United Nations. It was founded by Kevin Baugh. Hurricane Mitch is the second-deadliest Atlantic hurricane on record, causing over 11,000 fatalities in Central America in 1998, including approximately 7,000 in Honduras and 3,800 in Nicaragua due to cataclysmic flooding from the slow motion of the storm.
