Ernesto Korrodi
Ernesto Korrodi (Zürich, 31 January 1870 – Leiria, 3 February 1944), was a Switzerland, Swiss-born architect who moved to Portugal aged 19, spending the remainder of his life there. He later adopted Portuguese citizenship, and married a Portuguese woman. He died in 1944. Main works He has more than 400 works in all Portugal of which the most important are: * Castle of D. Leiria (; cel-x-proto, ɸlāryo) is a city and municipality in the Central Region of Portugal. Vila Real De Santo António
Vila Real de Santo António (, often run together as ) is a city, civil parish, and municipality in the Algarve, Portugal. The population in 2011 was 19,156, in an area of 61.25 km2. It is one of the few municipalities in Portugal without territorial continuity: its territory comprises two parts, with the municipal seat located in the eastern part. Vila Real de Santo António was founded after the 1755 Lisbon earthquake, and largely expanded in 1774 using the same architectural and construction techniques employed in the reconstruction of Lisbon after the disaster. The city is situated next to the Guadiana river. Leiria Castle
The Castle of Leiria ( pt, Castelo de Leiria) is a medieval castle in the civil parish of Leiria, Pousos, Barreira e Cortes, municipality of Leiria, district of Leiria. History The castle of Leiria was built by D. Afonso Henriques for the purpose of creating a line of defense against the Arabs. In 1142 he reinforced the defense of the castle after regaining Leiria. D. Sancho I ordered erection of the walls of the castle in 1195. In 1324 D. Dinis ordered construction of the keep (Tower of Menagem) which was completed only during the reign of D. Afonso IV. In the early 16th century D. Manuel ordered a sacristy to be built between the main chapel and the bell tower. Throughout the centuries the castle gradually lost its military value.
