Ernest Manning High School
Ernest Manning High School is a public senior high school located in the City of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, south of the Bow River. The school falls under the jurisdiction of the Calgary Board of Education. History The original Ernest Manning High School was built in 1963, and is named after the eighth Premier of Alberta, Ernest Manning. The school is part of the Action for Bright Children Society. New campus On October 7, 2008, the Calgary Board of Education approved and announced the closure of the existing Ernest Manning High School to facilitate the expansion of the western leg of Calgary's Light Rail Transit. The last class to graduate was in the summer of 2011 before the building was torn down. The students of Ernest Manning transferred to the new high school located on the western edge of Calgary near the community of Springbank in fall 2011. C-Train
CTrain (previously branded C-Train) is a light rail rapid transit system in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Most of the network functions as a light metro, though in the free-fare zone that runs through the downtown core the Red and Blue lines operate like a urban tramway (this transition occurs due to the density of stations in the free-fare zone, and is possible due to the design of the rail vehicles and their ability to operate on both segregated and road-integrated tracks). Ernest Manning
Ernest Charles Manning, (September 20, 1908 – February 19, 1996), a Canadian politician, was the eighth Premier of Alberta between 1943 and 1968 for the Social Credit Party of Alberta. He served longer than any other premier in Alberta's history and was the second longest-serving provincial premier in Canadian history, after George Henry Murray of Nova Scotia. Manning's 25 consecutive years as Premier was defined by strong social conservatism and fiscal conservatism. He was also the only member of the Social Credit Party of Canada to sit in the Senate and, with the party shut out of the House of Commons in 1980, was its last representative in Parliament when he retired from the Senate in 1983.
