Ernest Adams (baker)
Ernest Alfred Adams (23 November 1892 – 29 August 1976) was a New Zealand baker, businessman and philanthropist. He co-founded Ernest Adams Limited. Biography Born in Wellington, Somerset, England, Adams was educated at Devon County School. In 1909 he went to work for his father Herbert John Adams a master baker. In 1912, after declaring bankruptcy, Adams's family emigrated to Melbourne, Australia. In 1915 he opened his own bakery in Ballarat, Victoria. In 1921, after the death of his wife Mary Florinda Larson during childbirth, Adams moved to Christchurch where he had met Hugh Bruce, an elderly baker looking to sell his business. Adams and Bruce set up a partnership under the name "Adams Bruce Ltd." By 1929 the company expanded and opened new bakeries in Auckland, Wellington and Dunedin. Goodman Fielder is a joint Hong Kong/Singapore-owned manufacturer, marketer and distributor of bread, small goods, dairy products, margarine, oil, dressings and various food ingredients. Its main operations are in New Zealand, Australia, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, and New Caledonia, with over 40 manufacturing sites. The company employs over 5,000 people, and has more than 120 brands. History The company was founded in 1986 after the merger of Allied Mills Ltd and Goodman Group Ltd. Since the merger in 1986, the company has purchased a further 13 companies. The company was taken over by Burns Philp in 2003. Goodman Fielder was relisted on the sharemarket at the end of 2005 with Burns Philp retaining a 20% share (this share was subsequently sold in 2007). The International Game Developers Association (IGDA) is a nonprofit professional association whose stated mission is to "support and empower game developers around the world in achieving fulfilling and sustainable careers." The IGDA is incorporated in the United States as a 501(c)(6) nonprofit organisation. It has over 12,000 members from all fields of game development.
