Edilberto Kaindong Tiempo (August 5, 1913 – September 19, 1996) was a Filipino writer and professor. He and his wife, Edith L. Philippine English (similar and related to American English) is any variety of English native to the Philippines, including those used by the media and the vast majority of educated Filipinos and English learners in the Philippines from adjacent Asian countries. English is taught in schools as one of the two official languages of the country, the other being Filipino ( Tagalog). Philippine literature is literature associated with the Philippines from prehistory, through its colonial legacies, and on to the present. Pre-Hispanic Philippine literature was actually epics passed on from generation to generation, originally through an oral tradition. However, wealthy families, especially in Mindanao, were able to keep transcribed copies of these epics as family heirloom. One such was the ''Darangen'', an epic of the Maranaos. Classical literature in Spanish during the 19th Century On December 1, 1846, the first daily newspaper, '' La Esperanza'', was published in the country. Korean ( South Korean: , ''hangugeo''; North Korean: , ''chosŏnmal'') is the native language for about 80 million people, mostly of Korean descent. Jessica Tarahata Hagedorn (born 1949) is an American playwright, writer, poet, and multimedia performance artist. Biography Hagedorn is an American of mixed descent. She was born in Manila to a Scots-Irish-French-Filipino mother and a Spanish Filipino father with one Chinese ancestor. Moving to San Francisco in 1963, Hagedorn received her education at the American Conservatory Theater training program. To further pursue playwriting and music, she moved to New York City in 1978. In 1978, Joseph Papp produced Hagedorn's first play ''Mango Tango''. Hagedorn's other productions include ''Tenement Lover'', ''Holy Food'', and ''Teenytown''. Carlos Sampayan Bulosan (November 24, 1913 – September 11, 1956) was an English-language Filipino novelist and poet who immigrated to America on July 1, 1930. He never returned to the Philippines and he spent most of his life in the United States. His best-known work today is the semi-autobiographical ''America Is in the Heart'', but he first gained fame for his 1943 essay on '' The Freedom from Want''.
