Erixx
Erixx GmbH (stylized as erixx) is a private railway company operating regional train service in Lower Saxony and Bremen, northern Germany. It is wholly owned by OHE AG. Since 11 December 2011, Erixx operates on behalf of the public transport company of Lower Saxony (''Landesnahverkehrsgesellschaft Niedersachsen'' - LNVG). The name is derived from Erica, the genus of heath plants, and "x", representing the ''Heidekreuz'' (heath cross), the services operated over the Lüneburg Heath. Services Erixx has operated routes RB37 and RB38 since December 2011 until at least December 2019, which together form the ''Heidekreuz''. They operate on the Heath Railway and Uelzen–Langwedel railway. Soltau (Han) Station
Soltau (Han) station is in the town of Soltau in the German state of Lower Saxony, located in the centre of the Lüneburg Heath. As a junction station on two railway lines, Hannover Hauptbahnhof, Hannover Hbf – Buchholz in der Nordheide, Buchholz ''(Heath Railway)'' and Bremen Hauptbahnhof, Bremen Hbf – Uelzen station, Uelzen ''(Uelzen–Langwedel railway)'', it is a central transport hub of the region and serves commuters and visitors to the Lüneburg Heath as a destination and transfer station. Heath Railway
The Heath Railway (German: ''Heidebahn'') is a regional railway line in North Germany that crosses the Lüneburg Heath from which it derives its name. Most of the line is unelectrified and single-tracked. It links Buchholz in der Nordheide with Hanover, the capital city of Lower Saxony. Together with the east-west Uelzen–Langwedel railway, this north-south line is one of the two most important railways on the heath. History Already in the middle of the 19th century, Walsrode sought a connection to a railway line in response to the growth of gunpowder factories in neighbouring Bomlitz. Uelzen Railway Station
Uelzen (german: Bahnhof Uelzen) is a railway station located in Uelzen, Germany, at the eastern edge of the Lüneburg Heath Nature Park. The station is located on the Hannover–Hamburg railway, Uelzen–Langwedel railway, Stendal–Uelzen railway and Brunswick–Uelzen railway. The train services are operated by Deutsche Bahn, Metronom and Erixx. The original station was renovated for Expo 2000 following plans by the Austrian artist and architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser. Hannover Hauptbahnhof (German for ''Hanover main station'') is the main railway station for the city of Hanover in Lower Saxony, Germany. The railway junction is one of the 21 stations listed as a railway Category 1 station by DB Station&Service. It is also the most important public transport hub of the region of Hanover and it is served regional and S-Bahn services. Uelzen–Langwedel Railway
The Uelzen–Langwedel railway runs through the Lüneburg Heath in north Germany in an east-west direction. The line became known as part of the so-called America Line. History Imperial era The '' Bremen State Railway'', as it was first called, was originally built by the Bremen Senate and opened in 1873. It runs from Lower Saxon Langwedel eastwards through the Lüneburg Heath to Uelzen. The line was renowned as part of the so-called America Line. In Langwedel it formed a junction with the line to Wunstorf, that was owned 50/50 by Bremen and Hanover and operated by the Royal Hanoverian State Railways. Lüneburg Heath
Lüneburg Heath (german: Lüneburger Heide) is a large area of heath, geest, and woodland in the northeastern part of the state of Lower Saxony in northern Germany. It forms part of the hinterland for the cities of Hamburg, Hanover and Bremen and is named after the town of Lüneburg. Most of the area is a nature reserve. Northern Low Saxon is still widely spoken in the region. Lüneburg Heath has extensive areas, and the most yellow of heathland, typical of those that covered most of the North German countryside until about 1800, but which have almost completely disappeared in other areas. The heaths were formed after the Neolithic period by overgrazing of the once widespread forests on the poor sandy soils of the geest, as this slightly hilly and sandy terrain in northern Europe is called. Celle
Celle () is a town and capital of the district of Celle, in Lower Saxony, Germany. The town is situated on the banks of the river Aller, a tributary of the Weser, and has a population of about 71,000.
