Erin Baker
Erin Margaret Baker (born 23 May 1961) is a former New Zealand triathlete. She won many world championship and Ironman titles. Early life Baker was born in 1961 in Kaiapoi, New Zealand. Upon the suggestion by her mother, Mary, Baker began running competitively at age 15 and showed ability right from the start. "I remember the first day Erin competed in a cross-country race. I was waiting for her to come in thinking God, she won't be very pleased because she hasn’t done very well. In fact, I missed her crossing the finish line a quarter of an hour earlier, in first place." Baker is one of eight children. Kaiapoi
Kaiapoi is a town in the Waimakariri District of the Canterbury region, in the South Island of New Zealand. The town is located approximately 17 kilometres north of central Christchurch, close to the mouth of the Waimakariri River. It is considered a satellite town of Christchurch and is part of the Christchurch functional urban area. Kaiapoi is known for its substantial precolonial pā, established by powerful Kāi Tahu nobleman Tūrākautahi. One of the sons of the powerful rangatira Tūāhuriri, Tūrākautahi exerted vast influence over historical Ōtautahi (the site of modern-day Christchurch). His family controlled the pā he established in the area until it was sacked in 1830. Sir Peter James Blake (1 October 1948 – 5 December 2001) was a New Zealand yachtsman who won the 1989–1990 Whitbread Round the World Race, held the Jules Verne Trophy from 1994 to 1997 by setting the around the world sailing record as co-skipper of ''ENZA New Zealand'', and led New Zealand to successive victories in the America's Cup. Blake was shot and killed by pirates while monitoring environment change on the Amazon River on 5 December 2001. He was 53 years old. Sir Mark James Todd (born 1 March 1956) is a New Zealand horseman noted for his accomplishments in the discipline of eventing, voted Rider of the 20th century by the International Federation for Equestrian Sports. Karen Holliday
Karen Margaret Holliday (née Erikson, born 12 February 1966) is a former New Zealand track cyclist. Biography Holliday was born Karen Margaret Erikson in Nelson on 12 February 1966, and was educated at Nelson College for Girls. In 1985, she married Daryl Holliday, and the couple went on to have three children. Holliday won the world title in the women's points race at the 1990 UCI Track Cycling World Championships in Maebashi, and in doing so became the first New Zealander to win a world cycling title. At the same championship she finished fourth in the road race. Holliday also won the 1990 New Zealand women's road race title. The Halberg Awards are a set of awards, given annually since 1949, recognising New Zealand's top sporting achievements. They are named for New Zealand former middle-distance runner and Olympic gold medalist Sir Murray Halberg. The initial award was handed out in 1949, and continued until 1960 under the auspices of the ''NZ Sportsman'' magazine. Since 1963, the awards have been organised by the Halberg Disability Sport Foundation, and the number of award categories has grown to eight. Dame Susan Elizabeth Anne Devoy (born 4 January 1964) is a former New Zealand squash player and senior public servant. As a squash player, she was dominant in the late 1980s and early 1990s, winning the World Open on four occasions. She served as New Zealand's Race Relations Commissioner from 2013 to 2018. Lancaster Park
Lancaster Park, also known as Jade Stadium and AMI Stadium for sponsorship reasons, was a sports stadium in Waltham, a suburb of Christchurch in New Zealand. The stadium was closed permanently due to damage sustained in the February 2011 earthquake and subsequently demolished in 2019. It was reopened in 2022.
