Erik Valnes
Erik Valnes (born 19 April 1996) is a Norwegian cross-country skier. At the 2018 Junior World Championships (U23) he won the gold medal in the sprint, and also competed in the 15 km event. He made his World Cup debut in December 2017 in Lillehammer, also breaking the top 30-barrier with a 27th place in the sprint there. He represents the sports club Bardufoss og Omegn IF. Cross-country Skiing At The 2022 Winter Olympics – Men's 15 Kilometre Classical
The men's 15 kilometre classical competition in cross-country skiing at the 2022 Winter Olympics was held on 11 February, at the Kuyangshu Nordic Center and Biathlon Center in Zhangjiakou. The event was won by Iivo Niskanen of Finland. Alexander Bolshunov, representing the Russian Olympic Committee, won silver, and Johannes Høsflot Klæbo of Norway became the bronze medalist. Summary The 15 km distance event alternates between the Olympics, and in 2018 it was the freestyle event. The defending champion was Dario Cologna, who won this distance three times in a row (in 2010, 2014, and 2018), as well as 30k skiathlon in 2014. He finished in the 44th position. The silver medalist Simen Hegstad Krüger qualified for the Olympics but tested positive for COVID just before the games and was not able to start. FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2023
The 43rd FIS Nordic World Ski Championships will be held from 21 February to 5 March 2023 in Planica, Slovenia. It will be the first time that the country will host the World Championships. Championships Slovenia will host the Nordic World Championships for the first time. All competitions will take place at the Planica Nordic Centre, located in the Planica monument valley. Host selection The World Championships were awarded at the 51st FIS Congress, held between 13 and 19 May 2018 in Costa Navarino, Greece. Planica was unsuccessful in the previous three bids for the championship. The detailed application had to be submitted by 1 September 2017. Cross-country Skiing At The 2022 Winter Olympics – Men's 4 × 10 Kilometre Relay
The men's 4 × 10 kilometre relay competition in cross-country skiing at the 2022 Winter Olympics was held on 13 February, at the Kuyangshu Nordic Center and Biathlon Center in Zhangjiakou. Aleksey Chervotkin, Alexander Bolshunov, Denis Spitsov, and Sergey Ustiugov, representing the Russian Olympic Committee, won the event. It was first gold for Russian athletes in the relay since 1980, when the Soviet Union won. Norway won the silver medal, and France bronze. Summary Norway were the defending champion, and Russian Olympic Committee athletes and France were the 2018 silver and bronze medalists, respectively. The only relay in the 2021–22 FIS Cross-Country World Cup was won by Norway, with Russia second. Generally, the season was dominated by Norwegians and Russians, who together took 34 podium places in individual distance events out of 45.
