Erichsens Gård
Erichsens Gård is a timber-framed building located at Rønne on Bornholm, Denmark. It is now part of the Bornholm Museum and is Rønne's best preserved commoner's house. History Erichsens Gård was built in 1806 and expanded in the 1830s and 1840s. Surveyor and architect Henning Pedersen, who designed Rønne Præstegård and the old city hall on Rønne's ''Store Torv'', lived there between 1816 and 1837. Erichsens Gård is named after the next owner, Thomas Erichsen (1806-1886). He moved to Bornholm in 1832 and bought this house in 1838 and married Michelle Kathrine Westh (1812- 1890) in the same year. They had 12 children, one of whom, Vilhelmine Charlotte Erichsen (1852–1935), became the muse of artists Kristian Zahrtmann (1843-1917) and Holger Drachmann (1846-1908). Rønne
Rønne ( sv, Rönne) is the largest town on the Danish island of Bornholm in the Baltic Sea. It has a population of 13,807 (1 January 2022). It was a municipality in its own right from 1970 until 2002, when Bornholm was a county (Danish: ''Bornholms Amt''). It has an area of 29.11 square kilometres (11.24 square miles), and is the administrative centre of the Bornholm municipality. 11,539 inhabitants live in Rønne Parish (number 16 on the map of parishes; click on maps to enlarge for better view), which is a narrow piece of land on the westernmost of the island and stretching north and southward comprising around a third of the area of the former municipality. Bornholm
Bornholm () is a Danish island in the Baltic Sea, to the east of the rest of Denmark, south of Sweden, northeast of Germany and north of Poland. Strategically located, Bornholm has been fought over for centuries. It has usually been ruled by Denmark, but also by Sweden and by Lübeck. The ruin of Hammershus, at the northwestern tip of the island, is the largest medieval fortress in northern Europe, testament to the importance of its location. Bornholm Museum is a cultural history museum located in Rønne, Denmark. The museum collects, preserves, researches, and exhibits artifacts in order to raise awareness of Bornholm's cultural heritage. History The museum's association was first founded in 1893. The museum provides a historic view of Rønne and the island of Bornholm, from the Paleolithic era to the modern age, including the history of occupied Bornholm during World War II. Kristian Zahrtmann
Peder Henrik Kristian Zahrtmann, known as Kristian Zahrtmann, (31 March 1843 – 22 June 1917) was a Denmark, Danish Painting, painter. He was a part of the Danish artistic generation in the late 19th century, along with Peder Severin Krøyer and Theodor Philipsen, Theodor Esbern Philipsen, who broke away from both the strictures of traditional Academic art, Academicism and the heritage of the Golden Age of Danish Painting, in favor of Naturalism (art), naturalism and Realism (arts), realism. He was known especially for his history paintings, and especially those depicting strong, tragic, legendary women in Danish history. Bornholms Kunstmuseum
The Bornholm Art Museum (''Bornholms Kunstmuseum'') is situated on the Danish island of Bornholm, above the Sanctuary Rocks (''Helligdomsklipperne'') about 6 kilometres north-west of Gudhjem, Denmark. History The museum's permanent collection consists principally of paintings by artists with connections to Bornholm from the early 19th century to the present day. Special attention is given to the Bornholm school of painters which emerged at the beginning of the last century when a number of modernists, attracted to picturesque Bornholm and the tiny island of Christiansø, painted landscapes and local nature. Holger Drachmann
Holger Henrik Herholdt Drachmann (9 October 1846 – 14 January 1908) was a Danish poet, dramatist and painter. He was a member of the Skagen artistic colony and became a figure of the Scandinavian Modern Breakthrough Movement. Early years Drachmann was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. He was the son of Andreas Georg Drachmann (1810-1892) and Wilhelmine Marie Stæhr (1820-1857). His father was a surgeon with the Royal Danish Navy. The family belonged to the German-speaking congregation at St. Peter's Church (''Sankt Petri Kirke'') in Copenhagen. Owing to the early death of his mother, he was left much to his own devices and developed a fondness for semi-poetical performances, organising his companions in heroic games, in which he himself took such roles as those of Royal Danish Naval heroes Peder Tordenskjold and Niels Juel.
