Eric Geboers
Eric Geboers (5 August 1962 – 6 May 2018) was a Belgian professional motocross racer and racing driver. He competed in the Motocross World Championships from 1980 to 1990, winning five world championships in eleven years. Geboers is notable for being the first motocross competitor to win world championships in the 125cc, 250cc, and 500cc divisions. Geboers' 39 career Grand Prix victories ranks him fifth overall among motocross world championship competitors. In 1988, he was named the recipient of the Belgian National Sports Merit Award. In 2011, Geboers was named an FIM Legend for his motorcycling achievements. Geboers died in a drowning accident in 2018. Belgian Sportsman Of The Year
The Belgian Sportsman of the Year is elected at the end of each year by professional sportjournalists and former winners, annually since 1967. A Belgian Sportswoman of the Year title has been given out since 1975. Top winners include Ingrid Berghmans (8 wins), Kim Clijsters (8) and Eddy Merckx (6). Kevin Strijbos
Kevin Strijbos (born 13 August 1985 in Geel) is a Belgian former professional motocross racer. He competed in the Motocross World Championships from 2000 until 2021. Strijbos was the 1999 85cc motocross world champion and, in 2001 he won the 125cc European motocross championship. In 2006, Strijbos finished second in the world championship behind Stefan Everts. He finished second again in 2007, this time behind Steve Ramon. He was a member of the winning Belgium team at the 2004 Motocross des Nations event that included Ramon and Stefan Everts. The 2002 Proximus 24 Spa was the 56th running of the Spa 24 Hours and the seventh round the 2002 FIA GT Championship. 2001 Spa 24 Hours
The 2001 Proximus 24 Spa World Championship GT was the 55th running of the Spa 24 Hours. It was also the seventh round the 2001 FIA GT Championship season, marking the first time that the FIA GT Championship had the Spa 24 Hours on their schedule. The addition of the FIA GT Championship turned the Spa 24 Hours from a touring car event into a sports car race. The 24 Hours of Spa is an Endurance racing (motorsport), endurance racing event for cars held annually since 1924 at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, Stavelot, Belgium. It is currently sponsored by TotalEnergies. History The Spa 24 Hours was conceived by Jules de Their and Henri Langlois Van Ophem just one year after the inaugural 24 Hours of Le Mans was run. It debuted in 1924 over a circuit on public roads between the towns of Francorchamps, Malmedy and Stavelot, under the auspices of the Royal Automobile Club of Belgium (RACB). The present circuit was inaugurated in 1979 with only slight variations since then. FIA GT Championship
The FIA GT Championship was a sports car racing series organized by the Stéphane Ratel Organisation (SRO) at the behest of the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). The championship was mostly concentrated in Europe, but throughout the years has visited other continents including Asia and South America. At the end of 2009, the championship was replaced by the FIA GT1 World Championship, which morphed into the Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup, FIA GT Series for 2013. Endurance Racing (motorsport)
Endurance racing is a form of motorsport racing which is meant to test the durability of equipment and endurance of participants. Teams of multiple drivers attempt to cover a large distance in a single event, with participants given a break with the ability to change during the race. Endurance races can be run either to cover a set distance in laps as quickly as possible, or to cover as much distance as possible over a preset amount of time. One of the more common lengths of endurance races has been running for , or roughly six hours. Longer races can run for , 12 hours, or even 24 hours.
