Hippolyte Cloquet
Hippolyte Cloquet (10 March 1787 – 3 March 1840) was a French physician and anatomist who was a native of Paris. He was the brother of surgeon Jules Germain Cloquet (1790–1883), and father to Ernest Cloquet (1818–1855), who was a personal physician to Mohammad Shah Qajar of Persia. He studied medicine in Paris, where he earned his doctorate in 1815. In 1823 he became a member of the ''Académie de Médecine''. Cloquet was a pioneer in the field of rhinology, and in 1821 published '' Osphrésiologie, ou traité des odeurs'', which was a comprehensive treatise that discussed olfaction, diseases of the nose, deviations of the septum, rhinoplasty, et al. He was also author of ''Traité d'anatomie descriptive'', an influential French text of anatomy that ran through six editions. Bashford Dean
Bashford Dean (October 28, 1867 – December 6, 1928) was an American zoologist, specializing in ichthyology, and at the same time an expert in medieval and modern armor. He is the only person to have held concurrent positions at the American Museum of Natural History and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where he was Honorary Curator of Arms and Armor; the Metropolitan Museum purchased his collection of arms and armor after his death. Early life and education Bashford Dean was born on October 28, 1867 in New York City. His father was a prosperous lawyer from Westchester County. Charles Frédéric Girard
Charles Frédéric Girard (8 March 1822 – 29 January 1895) was a French biologist specializing in ichthyology and herpetology. Born in Mulhouse, France, he studied at the College of Neuchâtel, Switzerland, as a student of Louis Agassiz. In 1847, he accompanied Agassiz as his assistant to Harvard University. Three years later, Spencer Fullerton Baird called him to the Smithsonian Institution to work on its growing collection of North American reptiles, amphibians and fishes. He worked at the museum for the next ten years and published numerous papers, many in collaboration with Baird. In 1854, he was naturalized as a U.S. citizen. Besides his work at the Smithsonian, he managed to earn an M.D. from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. in 1856. Eptatretus Burgeri
The inshore hagfish (''Eptatretus burgeri'') is a hagfish found in the Northwest Pacific, from the Sea of Japan and across eastern Japan to Taiwan. It has six pairs of gill pouches and gill apertures. These hagfish are found in the sublittoral zone. They live usually buried in the bottom mud and migrate into deeper water to spawn. The inshore hagfish is the only member of the Myxinidae family having a seasonal reproductive cycle. Generally very little is known about hagfish reproduction and embryos are difficult to obtain for study, although laboratory breeding of ''Eptatretus burgeri'' has succeeded. The hide of this hagfish is processed into "eel skin" in Korea and exported worldwide. As food In most countries hagfish are usually not eaten, but this particular species is valued as food in the Korean Peninsula and among the Koreans in Japan.
