Enrico Coleman
Enrico Coleman (21 or 25 June 1846 – 14 February 1911) was an Italian painter of British nationality. He was the son of the English painter Charles Coleman and brother of the less well-known Italian painter Francesco Coleman. He painted, in oils and in watercolours, the landscapes of the Campagna Romana and the Agro Pontino; he was a collector, grower and painter of orchids. Because of his supposedly Oriental air, he was known to his friends as "Il Birmano", the Burmese. Life Enrico Coleman was born in Rome in June 1846. He was the fourth child of the English painter Charles Coleman, who had come to Rome in 1831 and settled there permanently in 1835, and of a famous artist's model from Subiaco, Fortunata Segadori (or Segatori), whom he had married in 1836. Coleman was initially taught by his father, and either did or did not study at the Accademia di San Luca in Rome. Campagna Romana
The Roman Campagna () is a low-lying area surrounding Rome in the Lazio region of central Italy, with an area of approximately . It is bordered by the Tolfa and Sabatini mountains to the north, the Alban Hills to the southeast, and the Tyrrhenian Sea to the southwest. The rivers Tiber and Aniene run through the area. History During the Ancient Roman period, it was an important agricultural and residential area, but it was abandoned during the Middle Ages due to malaria and insufficient water supplies for farming needs. The pastoral beauty of the Campagna inspired the painters who flocked into Rome in the 18th and 19th centuries. Mario or Marius de Maria (9 September 1852 – 1924) was an Italian painter, known for depicting nocturnal landscapes, and gaining the label by the contemporary poet Gabriele D’Annunzio, as the ''painter of moons''. Biography He was born in Bologna into a family with an artistic pedigree: his great-grandfather had been the orchestra director at St Petersburg, while his paternal grandfather, Giacomo de Maria, had been a Neoclassicism, Neoclassical sculptor, a pupil of Antonio Canova, Canova, and instructor at the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna. Giuseppe Raggio
Giuseppe Raggio (1823–1916) was an Italian painter. Life and career He was born in Chiavari, and while his father wished him to join the merchant marine, by 1845 he had decided to study painting, and participated in his first exhibition in Genoa. He enrolled in the Accademia di Belle Arti of Florence, where he studied under the neoclassical painter Giuseppe Bezzuoli. By 1846, he became friends with Giovanni Fattori and painters of the Macchiaioli movement who frequented the Caffè Michelangiolo. In 1848, amid the revolutionary turmoil, Raggio moved to Rome. In Rome, he met the painter of agrarian subjects, Nino Costa. Onorato Carlandi
Onorato Carlandi (15 May 1848, in Rome – 11 April 1939, in Rome) was an Italian painter, mainly of watercolors of Rome, the surrounding countryside and of Great Britain. He was married to the painter, Lina Haverty (?-1950), daughter of the Irish historian and journalist, Martin Haverty. Biography His grandfather was Fortunato Pio Castellani, founder of the eponymous jewelry company. He was originally destined for a career as a lawyer, but went against his family's wishes and enrolled at the Accademia di belle arti di Roma. Vincenzo Cabianca
Vincenzo Cabianca (June 21, 1827, Verona – March 21, 1902, Rome) was an Italian painter of the Macchiaioli group. Biography He was born in Verona in modest circumstances. He began his artistic training at the Verona Academy under Giovanni Caliari, and then studied at the Venice Academy from 1845 to 1847.Steingräber, E., & Matteucci, G. 1984, p. 107. The ''Société royale belge des aquarellistes'' () is an association of watercolourists founded in 1856 in Brussels under the chairmanship of Jean-Baptiste Madou. Creation of the society On 11 June 1856, sixteen painters, inspired by the Royal Watercolour Society created in 1804, met in Brussels to found a similar society. The Galleria Comunale d'Arte Moderna is the museum of modern and contemporary art of the city of Rome, Italy. It is housed in a former Barefoot Carmelite monastery dating from the 17th century and adjacent to the church of San Giuseppe a Capo le Case, at 24 Via Francesco Crispi.
