Ennistymon is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the town of Ennistymon, County Clare in Ireland. The club field teams in Gaelic Football and hurling competitions. Uniquely in Clare the club wears completely different colours in both codes - white and black for football, green and yellow for hurling. Their club crest also is shown in different colours although they each have a matching design. Ennistymon
Ennistymon or Ennistimon () is a country market town in County Clare, near the west coast of Ireland. The River Inagh, with its small rapids known as the Cascades, runs through the town, behind the main street. A bridge across the river leads to nearby Lahinch, on the N67 national secondary road. The town is connected to Ennis by the N85, continuing the settlement's main street. Name The town's official name is Ennistimon, although Ennistymon is the spelling most widely used. Historically, it was spelt ''Inishdymon''. This is believed to derive from ''Inis Diomáin'' meaning "Diomán's island". However, Míchéal Ó Raghallaigh argues that the name is derived from ''Inis Tí Méan'' meaning "island of the middle house" or "river meadow of the middle house". Gaelic Football
Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). Hurling
Hurling ( ga, iománaíocht, ') is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by men. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players and much terminology. The same game played by women is called camogie ('), which shares a common Gaelic root. The objective of the game is for players to use an ash wood stick called a hurley (in Irish a ', pronounced or ) to hit a small ball called a ' between the opponent's goalposts either over the crossbar for one point or under the crossbar into a net guarded by a goalkeeper for three points. The Clare Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic Athletic Association club competition organised by Clare GAA between the top twelve gaelic football clubs in County Clare, Ireland. The winners represent the county in the Munster Senior Club Football Championship, the winners of which progress to the semi-finals of the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship. The Clare SFC final is generally held in the month of October and is played at Cusack Park in Ennis. The 2018 Clare Senior Football Championship will be the 123rd staging of the Clare Senior Football Championship since its establishment by the Clare County Board in 1887. The defending champions and holders of the Jack Daly Cup were Kilmurry-Ibrickane who retained their crown to win their fifteenth overall senior title in October 2017. In 2017 it was decided that from 2019 onwards the Clare Senior Football Championship would be cut from sixteen to twelve teams. This means that five clubs will lose their senior status and be relegated down to the Clare Intermediate Football Championship for 2019. The eleven remaining senior clubs will be joined by the 2018 intermediate champions to form the new championship. The Clare Intermediate Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition organised by the Clare GAA, Clare County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association for the second tier football teams in the county of County Clare, Clare in Ireland. Clare Junior Hurling Championship is the third-tier hurling competition organized by the Clare County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. The competition is confined to clubs organised by Clare GAA. The winners usually will play in the intermediate grade the following year for the Clare Intermediate Hurling Championship. They will also represent Clare GAA in the Munster Junior Club Hurling Championship. The Clare Junior A Football Championship (abbreviated to Clare JAFC) is an annual Gaelic football club competition organised by the Clare County Board of the GAA for clubs below the Intermediate and Senior grades. It is contested by the top-ranking Junior clubs in County Clare, Ireland. It is the third-tier adult competition of the Clare football pyramid.
