England Women's National Rugby Union Team (sevens)
The English women's national rugby sevens team has competed in the Hong Kong Women's Sevens tournaments since 1997. England are also one of six teams announced by the International Rugby Board as "core teams" that will compete in all four rounds of the inaugural IRB Women's Sevens World Series in 2012–13. England won the bronze medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. At the 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens they lost to Ireland in the opening game of the tournament and were knocked out of the Championship Cup. They defeated Japan to win the Challenge Trophy Final and placed ninth overall. England, representing Great Britain, won the 2019 Rugby Europe Women's Sevens, thus qualifying for the 2020 Olympics. Simon Middleton
Simon Middleton (born 2 February 1966) is an English former rugby union and professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1980s and 1990s and the current head coach of the England Women's rugby union team. Playing career Middleton is a former cross-code wing/full back having played rugby league for Castleford ( Heritage № 693) as well as rugby union for a number of clubs including Leeds Tykes, where he took up a coaching role following his retirement from playing. Coaching career He spent 11 years at Leeds holding various coaching roles including defence, skills and eventually assistant coach, and helped them to the Premiership twice as well as achieve Heineken Cup qualification for the first time in their history. He joined the RFU in 2014 and led the England Women Sevens on the World Series, as well as taking a role as assistant coach for the 2014 Rugby World Cup in France where England were crowned champions. Rugby Sevens At The 2022 Commonwealth Games – Women's Tournament
The rugby sevens at the 2022 Commonwealth Games – Women's tournament was the women's event of the Commonwealth Games rugby sevens competition held every four years. It was held at the Coventry Stadium from 29 to 31 July 2022. Venue The tournaments were originally scheduled to take place at Villa Park, but they instead took place at the Coventry Stadium in Coventry. The adjacent Coventry Arena will play host to judo and wrestling. Qualification England qualified as host nation, three nations qualified via the World Rugby Women's Sevens Series, and four nations booked their places in regional qualification tournaments. Sarah McKenna
Sarah McKenna (born 23 March 1989) is an English rugby union and rugby sevens player. She is a member of the England Women's Rugby Team and plays for Saracens Women's at club level. International career McKenna made her debut for the England national team in August 2011 in a 15–11 victory over the United States. She also played for the country's rugby sevens team the same year and focused on sevens for some years after. She played in the 2015 Women's Six Nations Championship in which England came fourth. In 2015, she was also part of the team to finish third in the first round of the Rugby Europe 7s Grand Prix, but was forced out for nine months due to an ankle injury. Sonia Haft Greene Lovecraft Davis (March 16, 1883 – December 26, 1972) was an American one-time pulp fiction writer and amateur publisher, businesswoman and milliner who bankrolled several fanzines in the early twentieth century. 2012 London Sevens
The 2012 London Sevens was the sixth edition of the tournament and the ninth tournament of the 2011–12 IRB Sevens World Series. The host stadium was the Twickenham Stadium. Fiji won the title by defeating Samoa 38–15 in the final. Format The teams were divided into pools of four teams, who played a round-robin within the pool. Points were awarded in each pool on a different schedule from most rugby tournaments—3 for a win, 2 for a draw, 1 for a loss. The top two teams in each pool advanced to the Cup competition. The four quarterfinal losers dropped into the bracket for the Plate. IRB Women's Sevens Challenge Cup
The IRB Women's Sevens Challenge Cup was a series of three tournaments run by the International Rugby Board for women's rugby sevens held for the 2011-12 season. England finished as the holders of the Cup and won two of the three tournaments. The first Challenge Cup tournament was held alongside the 2011 Dubai Sevens. Canada defeated England in the final to win the Cup. The second tournament was in Hong Kong, held alongside the 2012 Hong Kong Sevens on 23–24 March, with England claiming the Cup. England hosted the IRB Women's Sevens Challenge Cup alongside the London Sevens on 12–13 May for the third tournament in the series. The host nation retained the Cup, defeating the Netherlands in the final. The Challenge Cup series was expanded into the IRB Women's Sevens World Series for the 2012-13 season.
