Emma Nedov
Emma Jane Nedov (born 11 March 1996 in Sydney) is an Australian artistic gymnast that competed at the 2014 and 2018 World Championships. She is the 2013 and 2019 Australian National Champion on beam. Early life Emma Jane Nedov was born on 11 March 1996 in Sydney. She began gymnastics when she was six years old at Epping YMCA. In 2004, Nedov developed a virus that caused "severe neck pain, headaches, and constant aching muscle pain" which forced her to temporarily quit gymnastics, but she recovered after four weeks of treatment. Career Junior career Nedov competed at her first Junior National Championships in 2010 where she won a silver on beam and a bronze with her team. At the 2011 Junior National Championships, Nedov won gold on uneven bars and balance beam, and she won bronze in the all-around and on floor exercise. 2016 Olympic Test Event
The 2016 Olympic Gymnastics Test Event, known officially as Aquece Rio 2016, served as the final qualifier to the gymnastics events at the 2016 Summer Olympics, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Concerns and criticisms During the test event the FIG (International Gymnastics Federation) raised "serious concerns" regarding the state of preparations for the Summer Olympics. There were power outages while the athletes were performing. Furthermore, the concerns include problems with the timing system and insufficient lighting in competition and training halls. In gymnastics, the floor is a specially prepared exercise surface, which is considered an apparatus. It is used by both male and female gymnasts. The gymnastics event performed on the floor is called floor exercise. The English abbreviation for the event in gymnastics scoring is FX. A spring floor is used in all of gymnastics to provide more bounce, and also help prevent potential injuries to lower extremity joints of gymnasts due to the nature of the apparatus, which includes the repeated pounding required to train it. Gymnastics Balance Beam
The balance beam is a rectangular artistic gymnastics apparatus and an event performed using the apparatus. Both the apparatus and the event are sometimes simply referred to as "beam". The uneven bars or asymmetric bars is an artistic gymnastics apparatus. It is made of a steel frame. The bars are made of fiberglass with wood coating, or less commonly wood. Achilles Tendon Rupture
Achilles tendon rupture is when the Achilles tendon, at the back of the ankle, breaks. Symptoms include the sudden onset of sharp pain in the heel. A snapping sound may be heard as the tendon breaks and walking becomes difficult. Rupture typically occurs as a result of a sudden bending up of the foot when the calf muscle is engaged, direct trauma, or long-standing tendonitis. Other risk factors include the use of fluoroquinolones, a significant change in exercise, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, or corticosteroid use. Diagnosis is typically based on symptoms and examination and supported by medical imaging. Prevention may include stretching before activity and gradual progression of exercise intensity. Treatment may consist of surgical repair or conservative management. Quick return to weight bearing (within 4 weeks) appears okay and is often recommended.
