Emberá-Wounaan Comarca
Emberá-Wounaan is a ''comarca indígena'' (indigenous territory) in eastern Panama. It was created by Law Number 22 on November 8, 1983, out of the former Chepigana and Pinogana districts of the Darién Province. Its capital is Unión Chocó, and it is notable for being composed of two non-contiguous sections. Administrative divisions Emberá-Wounaan Comarca is sub-divided into 2 districts and 5 '' corregimientos''. Cemaco is the eastern section, Sambú is the western one. Flag The Flag of the Emberá Wounaan Region is a vivid representation of the resources and nature that encompasses its entire territory. The green stripe symbolizes all its natural resources. A ''comarca'' (, or , or ) is a traditional region or local administrative division found in Portugal, Spain and some of their former colonies, like Brazil, Nicaragua, and Panama. The term is derived from the term ''marca'', meaning a March (territory), "march, mark", plus the prefix ''co''-, meaning "together, jointly". The ''comarca'' is known in Aragonese language, Aragonese as ''redolada'' () and in Basque language, Basque as ''eskualde'' (). Emberá Languages
Emberá (also known as Chocó) is a dialect continuum spoken by Emberá people, 100,000 people in northwestern Colombia and southeastern Panama. It belongs to the Choco languages, Choco language family. ''Embera, Emperã, Empena, Eberã, Epena'', etc. is the Embera word for 'human being' or 'man' and is used as the autonym by all speakers of varieties of Embera (though not by the related Wounaan). Embera-Wounaan
The Embera–Wounaan are a semi-nomadic indigenous people in Panama living in Darién Province on the shores of the Chucunaque, Sambú, Tuira Rivers and its waterways. The Embera-Wounaan were formerly and widely known by the name Chocó, and they speak the Embera and Wounaan languages, part of the Choco language family. Name The name ''Embera'' means "people". Collectively they are known as the Chocó and belong to two major groups: the Emberá, of upper Atrato and San Juan rivers, and the Wounaan of the lower San Juan River. The Emberá are also known as the Atrato, Bedea, Cholo, Darién, Dariena, Eberá, Emberak, Emperia, and Panama Emberá people. The Waunaan are also known as the Chanco, Chocama, Noanama, Noenama, Nonama, Wounaan, or Wound Meu people.
