The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea ( fa, سفارت جمهوری اسلامی ایران در جمهوری دموکراتیک خلق کره, , lit=) is the diplomatic mission of Iran to North Korea. It is located in Munhungdong, Monsu Street, Taedongkang District, Pyongyang. The current ambassador is Seyed Mohsen Emadi. History Under the Pahlavi dynasty, Iran only had an embassy in South Korea. Iran–North Korea relations ( ko, 이란-조선민주주의인민공화국 관계; fa, روابط ایران و کرۀ شمالی) are described as being positive by official news agencies of the two countries. Diplomatic relations improved following the Iranian Revolution in 1979 and the establishment of an Islamic Republic. Iran and North Korea pledge cooperation in educational, scientific, and cultural spheres. Some media reports claim this cooperation extends to nuclear cooperation, though official U.S. government publications and academic studies have disputed this. Pahlavi Dynasty
The Pahlavi dynasty ( fa, دودمان پهلوی) was the last Iranian royal dynasty, ruling for almost 54 years between 1925 and 1979. The dynasty was founded by Reza Shah Pahlavi, a non-aristocratic Mazanderani soldier in modern times, who took on the name of the Pahlavi language spoken in the pre-Islamic Sasanian Empire in order to strengthen his nationalist credentials. The dynasty replaced the Qajar dynasty in 1925 after the 1921 coup d'état, beginning on 14 January 1921 when 42-year-old soldier Reza Khan was promoted by British General Edmund Ironside to lead the British-run Persian Cossack Brigade. About a month later, under British direction, Reza Khan's 3,000-4,000 strong detachment of the Cossack Brigade reached Tehran in what became known as the 1921 Persian coup d'état. Ar-Rahman Mosque (Pyongyang)
The Ar-Rahman Mosque is a mosque in Pyongyang, North Korea on the grounds of the Iranian embassy, and is considered the country's first and only mosque. Embassy staff from other Islamic countries in North Korea including Sunni from Indonesia have been reported to visit the mosque and pray at it, and the mosque hosts Friday prayers which have been reported to be attended by Muslim embassy staff from various countries regardless of sect. Though other Islamic-majority nations have embassies in North Korea, such as Egypt, Libya and Pakistan, none of them have been reported to have mosques on their premises, and the lack of mosques in North Korea due to the state's religious policy has made North Korea reportedly the only country to have only a Shia mosque and no Sunni mosques. Shia Islam
Shīʿa Islam or Shīʿīsm is the second-largest branch of Islam.
