Elvis Loveless
Elvis Loveless is a Canadian politician, who was elected as a Liberal Party of Canada, Liberal to the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly in the 2019 Newfoundland and Labrador general election, 2019 provincial election. He represents the electoral district of Fortune Bay-Cape La Hune in Central Newfoundland. On August 19, 2020, Loveless was appointed Minister of Fisheries, Forestry, and Agriculture in the Furey government. Loveless was re-elected in the 2021 provincial election. He was appointed Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure. Before being elected, Loveless worked for then-MHA Oliver Langdon. He had previously contested the district in the 2007 provincial election losing to Progressive Conservative Party of Newfoundland and Labrador, PC candidate Tracey Perry. The Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly is the Unicameralism, unicameral deliberative assembly of the General Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. It meets in the Confederation Building (Newfoundland and Labrador), Confederation Building in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, St. John's. Bills passed by the assembly are given royal assent by the Monarchy in Newfoundland and Labrador, King of Canada in Right of Newfoundland and Labrador, represented by the Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador. The governing party sits on the left side of the speaker of the House of Assembly as opposed to the traditional right side of the speaker. Oliver Langdon
Oliver Langdon is an educator and former political figure in Newfoundland and Labrador. He represented Fortune Bay-Cape La Hune in the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly from 1989 to 2007 as a Progressive Conservative and then Liberal member. He was born in Seal Cove, Fortune Bay and educated at Memorial University. Langdon married Margaret Loveless. He served in the provincial cabinet as Minister of Environment and Labour and as Minister of Municipal and Provincial Affairs. Langdon was a member of the town council for Point Leamington. First elected as a Progressive Conservative in 1989, Langdon ran as a Liberal in 1993, and beat Progressive Conservative candidate and future Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, Kathy Dunderdale. The 2007 Newfoundland and Labrador general election was held on October 9, 2007 to elect members of the 46th General Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador. Campaign The election was called soon after Premier Danny Williams announced the popular Hebron Oil Field deal, and it was widely considered a foregone conclusion that Williams' Progressive Conservatives would be reelected. The 2019 Newfoundland and Labrador general election was held on May 16, 2019, to elect members of the 49th General Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador.
