Elvira Lobato
Elvira Lobato is a Brazilian journalist. She has worked at ''Folha de S.Paulo'' for 25 out of 39 years in which she was a journalist; she retired in 2012. She was awarded some of the most prestigious prizes for journalists in Brazil, including Prêmio Esso, that she received in 2008 for an investigative series on the wealth of Universal Church of the Kingdom of God, Igreja Universal. Because of this work, she has been threatened and publicly persecuted. ''ExxonMobil Journalism Award'' (''Prêmio ExxonMobil de Jornalismo''), previously known as Esso Journalism Award (''Prêmio Esso de Jornalismo''), formerly known as Esso Reportage Award (''Prêmio Esso de Reportagem''), is an annual Brazilian journalism award given by the company Esso in Brazil. The award was created in 1955 by Ney Peixoto do Vale, who took inspiration from the Pulitzer Prize. The main award is a trophy and Brazilian real, R$ 30,000 and goes to paper press only. The Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (UCKG; pt, Igreja Universal do Reino de Deus, IURD) is an evangelical charismatic Christian denomination with its headquarters at the Temple of Solomon in São Paulo, Brazil. The church was founded in 1977 in Rio de Janeiro by Bishop Edir Macedo, who is the owner (since 1989) of the multi-billion television company RecordTV. In 1999 the UCKG claimed to have 8 million members in Brazil and was already considered a "commercial church".
